"project Race/fun Ride"
Hey everyone please check this out and tell me what you think. I'm almost done with her. I should have all the final welds and sanding done by next Fri and hopefully send it out to powdercoat by the following Mon. I'm thinking of powdercoating everything flat black.
I tried to build every part of the cage in a way so it would be easy to lift off if needed and be able to switch up accessories as needed. The main sections of the cage are over kill with 120 wall dom tubing and .95 on everything else, plus all cage bungs are 2" long were it gets welded up to the tubing instead of the 3/4 of an inch ones that most people sell.
This is the first time I have ever had to skin a vehicle, and I would have to say it's one of the hardest things I have ever had to build. And for all of you guys who want to build your own cage good luck I have 1,000.00 into this one in parts and material alone, without powdercoating. If I didn't like doing this stuff so much I would of just gone out and bought lsr or utv cage I think both of those look good and are structurally the nicest ones out there..I still need wheels tires and long travel. I'm thinking 4" because of living in WA and still be able to do some trail riding. So what do you race guys think I should go with as far as tires, long travel and shocks for short track racing?

Re: "project Race/fun Ride"
I like the cage, especially the hinged tire carrier. But I'd rather have the vette.
I am really happy with my suspension kit. It's a 6 over, but what's 4 inches. It rides great, and it gets it off of the ground so you don't drag over every rock. I don't race mine, but I do run it hard. It's got 500 miles of Baja Mexico on it. That ride is almost the same as the Baja 1000 was in the movie Dust To Glory.
Tires and wheels really depend upon what you are going to do with it. I have the same size on all 4 corners, so I can carry one spare tire. I went with 12 inch rims to have more sidewall to protect the rim. I have had good luck with the Maxxis Bighorns.
Good luck with your choices. It looks like you are off to a great start!

Re: "project Race/fun Ride"
That looks really good. And what a beautiful place. Check out UTV Craps 6" it's pretty sweet and a good price and you can't go wrong with LSR either. A little off topic but I couldn't help checking out the Vette and invisioning putting the dash and front seats from that into my Camaro lol. Also is that the LS7? Sweet

Re: "project Race/fun Ride"
Thx!
It is a ls7 with a k tec 650hp kit installed. It's pretty much the first day it's been out since it seems to rain ever f---in day in WA.
I agree both of those kits are top on my list. I plan on ordering something this week. I really want a 6" per side kit but since most of my riding is in the woods I think a 4" long travel would suit me better. If anyone out there uses a 6" kit in the woods and likes it I would like to hear from them..
Wait till the new camaro comes out, now that set up is sweet..

Re: "project Race/fun Ride"
My $.02, where ever you get your arm/shock package from, make sure you let the shock guys know how much weight you added so that you can be provided heavier springs. I also noticed in one photo two 5 gal. gas cans. that is 30 lbs. of fuel plus the can each. Realize also that you are going to have to find a balance in the rear starting with say 60 lbs. of fuel in the rear and then reducing the weight as you add it to car/cars. You might want to setup using 1 can to find a happy medium.
Otherwise, I like it!!!! Nice job!!

Wow that looks fantastic Tony! I'm curious if you also replaced the weak lower cage mounts?

I have a front and rear set of scales coming this week so I can weigh the car on each coner.
This year my only plan is to short corse race it, so the tire rack, gas tanks and tool box would only be on there for weekend rides.
Do you know what companies will help you with spring rate set ups?

In the front, no but I braced it all the way around the tube and added plate and bracing to the rear mounts. While the cage is at powder coat, I'm going to cut out a bunch of small tri-angles and brace up every joint I can. I have built a lot of car chassis but this is the first time building something for a utv.
I used to live in waterford MI, till last year.
