DIRT Performance, Inc. Skid Plate Install

DIRT Performance, Inc.
Web Site: Kawasaki Teryx Yamaha Rhino Arctic Cat Prowler Polaris RZR atv part accessory
Contact: Rylan Bowlin
Phone: 423-569-3478

Protection Package as shown $1,069.00 Delivered

First Impressions: The build quality is "top notch" it couldn't have been any better. All the welds are equal bead size. Just great workmanship.

Installation Summary: Every piece lined up with the factory mounting holes* Installation was quick and simple.

Most liked piece of protection: I love the side protection plates notice they cover the entire length of the lower rocker panel. And unlike the OEM rock sliders they do not lower the ground clearance and they mount to both sides of the frame. These are just sweet.

* I did have to cut down the rear A-arm guards only because my home made limiting strap bolt was in the way of the plate mating up to the lower A-arm.

Absolutely stellar.
The DPI boot guards are by far the best I've ever seen, I LOVE mine!

Re: DIRT Performance, Inc. Skid Plate Install

i dont care how nice the welds or the fit is, there's no way in hell i'ld pay over $1000.00 for a friggin skid plate. you gotta be kidding me. i made one out of 1/2" uhmw and it cost me a total of 125.00 bucks and i guaranty you it will hold up better in any situation. and you are in no way in hell gonna put a rock through it like an aluminium skid.

some guys must have money to burn!!!

Re: DIRT Performance, Inc. Skid Plate Install

i just dont endorse overpriced parts no matter how pretty they are. performance is what counts to me. yeah, sometimes i'll pay a LITTLE more for a nice product, but come on...
no skid system is worth that much. it's price gouging and i dont care who is making it or sellin it.
90% of mass produced skids are nice and affordable, but even then at around 300-500 bucks the average guy cant afford them.

just my opinion, i may be wrong.

budndar,

I agree with you on price, $1000. is stupid, if you consider there actual material cost and doesnt take a rock scientist to make one. R&D time is minimal.

Re: DIRT Performance, Inc. Skid Plate Install

I come up with 850 for the front, center, rear and side DPI skids. I prefer my Holz for the money (about 400...I think) but if somebody wants to spend 850 for a nice skid plate, what's the big deal? It's still a nice product, regardess of price.
Now I wouldn't care what I had to pay for the boot guards, the offer the best protection I've seen. The clamping system used is worth the extra bucks as the guards actually STAY in place and allow the guards to do their job.
My opinion and money of course.

I agree, the price for skids is crazy. You'd think some were made out of gold. I'll also be installing the uhmw plastic because it will hold up alot better than the alluminum.

budndar - Any reason why you went with the 1/2" over the 3/8"? I was told the 3/8" would be just as good and also be a little lighter and cheaper. Also, any tips to make install easier would be nice. Like what did you use to cut it and how did you sink the bolts for protection? Was it easy to trace, cut and install? Thanks in advance.

i only used the 1/2" because my plastic dealer up the road had it in stock. it was $125.00 for a 4' x 5'9" pc. it only added about 10-15 lbs so i was not worried about the wieght versus protection.
i cut it out with a jigsaw and then used a 45 degree bit in my router to ease the edges. then i traced the holes and used a forstner bit to counter sink all the bolts. i had enough left over to make a front and rear diff plate and i then planed down the 1/2" scrap to 3/8" to make four cv guards. i posted pics in another thread. check my topics and you will see it somewhere.
all in all it came out nice and if you dont have money to burn like some guys do, it might be a project for you.

Re: DIRT Performance, Inc. Skid Plate Install

The skid plate is only $374.00. I bought a full package; front and rear CV boot protectors, front and rear differential skids, center skid & side skid plates.

I can appreciate your ability and build your own. I posted this so others than might be interested in DPI products could hear 1st hand consumer experience with the products. Just like my other post reviewing products.

I'll be sure not to post anymore product reviews in the future, seeing how this post turned out.

tx, I for one appreciate your reviews and would hate to see you stop posting your personal results because a few others think something is too pricey.
I would love to see an Admin split the post.

Re: DIRT Performance, Inc. Skid Plate Install

are we not supposed to post our opinion because it is opposite of yours? i said there is no way "I" would buy a skid plate for that much. if you want to, go right ahead. i just think that it is a rip off. i did what you paid $1000.00+ for $125.00 bucks.
and why split the thread? Because some others agree with me? that doesnt make any more sense than paying too much for a skid plate...i think some guys are a little too thin skinned. i was just voicing my opinion, not attacking anyone posting.

Re: DIRT Performance, Inc. Skid Plate Install

bud, nothing wrong with you stating you wouldn't spend the money. I think split the thread so those that want to know and learn about the plastic can. Those that are interested in the product produced by DPI (as the title states) can see it without the thread jack.
