Well it's that time of year again and I'm gearing up to race the 2011 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb!

Last year I went with a turbocharged 900cc big bore motor and detuned it to 100 rwhp just to make sure I made it to the top. With 100 or less horsepower I still managed to run a 14:03.

This year, with the help of MCX-USA I'm going for broke and stepping up to the infamous Apex motor! The Apex motor is a 4 cylinder 998cc Yamaha motor that is loosely related to their R1 street bike motor. This motor is sourced directly from Yamaha's Apex snowmobile. On top of this, MCX-USA is going to force feed all 998cc's with an intercooled turbocharger! The net result? How about 300+ horsepowers!



The added benefit for going with this swap is not only increased rpm's and horsepower, but the proven reliability of these motors at extreme elevations. Since the PPIHC starts at a mear 9,390 feet above elevation and finishes at 14,110 feet above sea level, there isn't another engine more suitable for the task.

And so it begins! The RZR, still fresh with mud and dirt from last years race was dropped off at MCX.

Not sure exactly, but I think there's room for like 5 drivers in the class. Someone else just need to register.

I do actually! Things are crazy and down to the last minute as always. I don't even know if I will be able to drive it before my first practice session on June 4th. Lets talk soon and actually see if we can work on getting it dialed in this year.

4nines I look forward to seeing you there if I can make it up. I have been going for years helping a good friend run in the proquad class. I think I have him talked into dumping the quads and going with a RZR for PPIHC 2012.
