More Joyner junk!

My opinion of these has plummeted somewhat since I heard a recent club trip to a local off road centre ended in 2 of the 3 Joyner 650s breaking down in a short space of time (1 with throttle failure, 1 with manifold which fell off).

However, this owner seems to love his and it's a well put together video:

Obviously the "it will go anywhere" comment need to be taken with a pinch of salt with just RWD and crappy little tyres (and no low ratio) which would need upgrading, and they're kind of badly priced over in the US... but here both the buggy and UTV variants still remain tempting if your toolkit is big enough.

They will do 40-60mpg (british gallons).

Re: More Joyner junk!

I had a Joyner 650 and the throttle broke off the carb and a buddy had to ride 40 miles back to the truck setting on the engine opening and closing the butterfly with his finger.

Re: More Joyner junk!

Knew two people with the 4wd Joyner buggies....they own rzrs now and one of them has a nice new Joyner sitting behind the shed that cost damn near as much as his rzr that's apparently not worth fixing.

Just from what I've seen, also heard they're unreliable? I used to think they were sweet

14 scrambler 1000, 28 mega mayhems on 14" sixr wheels, qsc clutched on hardest setting
14 Ace, 26" pro comp extremes on 14" msa m17 elixer wheels, total blast!
And a 600rwhp 03 powerstroke on 37" mud grapplers to haul it all
13 fx4 a/p on 35"grapplers, 6.2l

Re: More Joyner junk!

Mark, (sup44) has a Roketta if you can believe an even cheaper copy of a Joyner. He has kept up on all the rzr group rides we have done, albeit sometimes towed through sections that absolutely required 4wd (one insanely steep lose hill that I can remember). The funny stuff is the rock crawling that you get to the top and jump out as fast as you can because you want to see how the "china buggy" is gonna do on this one. Then you hear the turbo screaming for all it's got and see the big yellow buggy going way too fast towards the rocks, he never lets off. The thing will inevitably bounce it's way to the top looking like an uphill accident. Mark will get out and say "wow, I can't believe that worked" while we all stand there laughing and not believing it either. There was a slick slimy hill on one of rzrwrecker's rides where gump got stuck in 4wd precariously balanced over a pond and had to be winched out. We all got kind of quiet thinking of how that damn heavy buggy was gonna slip into the pond and how difficult it was gonna be to get it out. Then you hear that little turbo screaming for all it's got and just shoots right up the hill WTF... Gump w standing there cursing away, thought he was gonna blow a gasket himself.

Bottom line they are crappy and with the amount of hours Mark has into this machine he could have bought an XP, but his actual cash outlay has been minimal. It seems to comes down to money or time your gonna pay to play either way. I will say Marks machine is well sorted, fast and at this point reliable but it was a long road that required a bit of determination to be sure. Very happy with my rzr!
