I have a buddy that just sold a plated Rhino.... he had it registered as farm equipment. He lives in Sacramento and up there he says they don't look twice but he doubts it would fly in the city.

Re: Street Legal in california

Up-here The is a guy with plates on an old 3 wheel cushman cart..also see gas powered and electric golf carts with plates,,,I think you can get-em for them things...low speed vehicle registration...only drive on roads where speed limit is 35 an under...I think there is all-so a law that if you live by golf course..you can drive golf cart on streets..up here also if you use rzr as snow plow you can drive on the streets just as all the other un-registered...plows do..Thats what I do during winter if I wanna drive on streets..but why would you wanna drive rzr on streets? They are not made for pavement and they get chitty miles per gallon....

Someone said before it was becuase the engine is intended for off road use.I dont know that for sure though. You can register electric golf carts for the street here and there are alot in the city.I was told its becuase they are electric motors so they can get them registered.

Re: Street Legal in california

Just last week in Pacific Beach, San Diego I saw a guy driving a long travel rhino around the beach area. He said it was really easy to register and asked the cops in the area about it first to make sure. He says he's been driving down there for a little over a year now and knows of a bunch of others that have done the same thing. Only thing he said the dmv made him add to his side by side was a license plate light.

I am looking into this so I can do the same.

Re: Street Legal in california

It is a local thing where a CITY can issue you the SLOW Vehicle plate through the DMV! You have to go to the Cops first and get the inspection then the DMV and they will, but it is very restricted! Streets in YOUR city or Cities that have the same rule that have a speed limit of 35mph or less! No state Hwys or Freeways! I would rather be in my UTV than a Golf Cart or Moped in a crash! Gas Carts are allowed in my cities, not just EV! The streets here have to have the Golf Cart sign posted as well! Turn signals, Lic Light, Horn, and some other rules from City to City!

Re: Street Legal in california

I guess Arizona, Utah and Idaho has it figured out. You can ride on the streets legal and get to register your RZR. How smart do you have to be to figure that one out? Look at the revenue the states would generate and you would have some control of the ID number on your RZR. We are struggling with the idiots in Nevada state government trying to get them to get it. The first year of registration it would generate 22 mil. So far it is a big fat zero but we are not giving up. Don't get me wrong I am not for more taxes but wouldn't it be nice to be able to track your RZR if it was stolen.

Re: Street Legal in california

In Montana you have to make them street legal even to take them off road. $160 for perm sticker and plate. Do have to put a horn, rear view mirror and lighted license plate to finish it off. it is great to run down the street fir milk or blaze in the fresh snow.

Leo, some of us really luv the whole plated thing not for the 'thrill' of driving it on the street, but for the ultra convenience of getting to trails near your house without having to trailer it. I hate loading it up, especially for a little 1 hour dirt cruise to see the sunset.
