Need Help to decide... RZR or else ?
Guys, Greetings from Mexico !!!
I live in Mexico City but soon in Puerto Vallarta.
Never had a Side by Side but very excited to get one.
The main use... beach - sand , trailing at mountain skirts and perhaps doing some visits to the jungle, rivers, creeks etc and which is what surrounds Puerto Vallarta town. I have been doing research and visiting many pages to read different opinions regarding Rhinos and RZRs... but Dont know exactly what to get. I am inclined for the RZR because of videos, the engine power and because I think it will be more fun for a beach town and for the use that I want it for, however, I read that the cage in the RZR is small and that a tall person would not be as comfortable in it. I am 6.1 plus the helmet and I dont know whether that will be the only problem for me. Im sure that I dont want to own a vehicle that requires me to be head down all time.
The other important thing is that in Mexico we dont have POLARIS dealers and I would have to import it myself, maybe an advantage because I will save me the profit margin from the dealer, but dont know if the shipping will be so expensive that I will end up paying much for the operation. In the case of the Rhino, Yamaha Mexico does have it in stock by request in all the Mexico Dealerships and for parts and repairs would be the most logical thing to do. Im just affraid that I will be dissappointed at the power of the engine. It is important to mention that I dont plan to invest much more in the vehicle at the moment. Perhaps lighting, bumpers etc. but not an extra suspension upgrade. I dont know what to do !! Some help and opinions comparing both of them would be greatly appreciated. Thanks !!

I used to drive rhino's a previous job and they're fun. But if you actually have a Yamaha dealer, and no Polaris dealer, then I would have to say go to Yamaha (cringes). It's just going to be easier on you for everything. Just my $0.02, though.

Re: Need Help to decide... RZR or else ?
Rob
Thanks for the 2 cents.
I kind of agree with you in terms of having local Service from Yamaha.
I do mechanics for my remote control car but I dont have idea on mechanics for motorcyles and for sure not having a dealership with mechanics in town would be kind of a pain in the neck. I really like the RZR though, but as I said in my mail originally, I need to balance out the decission in a smart way. I signed up at the Rhino Forum and of course I got 2 inputs where they say RZR is crap. Is it true that the chasis in the RZR is weak ? Or their just jealous about it ? When do you get your RZR ?
Cheers

Well, if you feel you have decent mechanical abilities, you might think about buying the factory service manual to go alone with the RZR. That is, if you're really want the RZR over the Rhino.

Great job on spotting the jealousy or "supremacy" as I call it. Though I am not sure if the RZR or Rhino is better, always be careful and objective when taking advice from people on the internet.
Good luck in your search, be sure to keep us updated on what you decide!

Re: Need Help to decide... RZR or else ?
Hi Brian
Thanks for your input. At the present time, my forwarder at the Texas border is finding out how much would it cost me to import the RZR. In addition to the importation costs would have to add up the shipping and once I have a total I will compare with the current price of Rhinos in Mexico.
OTD in Mexico City a Sports Rhino goes for 14,500 US or 153,000 pesos.
That is invoiced and delivered to my address. So if RZR is a lot cheaper, then I might.....dont know !! HEHE !!!
Since I am going to use the Side by Side a lot on the beach, I was wondering.... Im aware that both of them can roll over if they are driven mistakenly. But, will the Rhino spin a lot if I want to play that way on the sand, or I would have to be more careful vs. RZR that seems to have a better gravity center ?
Also, one of the plans, since I will be living couple blocks from the beach, is to pack all the picnic in the Rhino, tenta, grill, food, cervezas and stuff and just drive down to the beach, play around, pack up the party and back to the house. So, that is the advantage of Rhino vs. RZR.
But anyway, I will keep you posted. I appreciate from everyone sharing their point of view.
cheers
RAUL

Re: Need Help to decide... RZR or else ?
i don't think you will have any issues with the height of the roll cage on the RZR. there is plenty of room for your head. You might have problems with your knees hitting the dash. Bigger guys, like 6'2" 240 lbs aren't very comfortable in them at all. Plenty of head room, its more in the legs.
I think both are equal in tip over ness.. the rzr for sure has more power, and is more thrilling to drive. If you are planning on leaving the suspension and engine stock, and want the best performance, the RZR is the winner hands down.

Re: Need Help to decide... RZR or else ?
Hey Greg
Thanksf or your response. I really appreciated. I guess im gonna have to get on a RZR as soon as my dealer has one in order to make sure I am not uncomfortable, otherwise I might have to think in something else (Rhino) perhaps I will wait towards the end of year and see what is new. Kawasaki new Teryx and maybe Honda's new side by side (read rumor) or a new Rhino with larger engine. I really like the RZR though, but I dont know if I will be very comfortable. How much money I have to invest to make the Rhino a bit faster ? Cheers and Bests

Re: Need Help to decide... RZR or else ?
From a rider perspective the Ranger is a smooth comfortable ride like a Navigator. The Rhino is more sporty not as smooth like a SUV. The RZR is more of a sports car. It totally depends where you ride, sand or dirt. Do you ride slow on trails or go full out leaving caution to the wind... We have Rangers and RZRs. Our friends have both Rhinos and Rangers. They are all good...

Re: Need Help to decide... RZR or else ?
Hello Hotride4U,
Thanks for your opinion. I certainly have evaluated the advantages of one over the other. I will be living in a part of Mexico where there is beach and trails. I will do some light trailing but I will mainly drive the thing to the Beach. I will get on all the stuff for a picnic, perhaps haul a wave runner and so for. I think both side by sides are great, I trully like both of them.
On one hand I am excited about the speed and capabilities of the RZR but at the same time I love the dynamism of the Rhino with more space, even to transport 4 people. I think that with of all what I have read, I will be waiting to buy it until the end of the year. Perhaps by the end of the year I will see three new options: A possible Honda side by side, a Faster Rhino and the Kawasaki Tyrex. This way, I will have more options and perhaps upgraded. I appreciate your opinion. Cheers
