This could cause trail closings
Land Rights Network
American Land Rights Association PO Box 400 Battle Ground, WA 98604 Phone: 360-687-3087 Fax: 360-687-2973 E-mail: alra@pacifier.com Web Address: - American Land Rights Association - Legislative Office: 507 Seward Square SE Washington, DC 20003 Sen. Ag Hearing Tues 9.29 Bad Obama Forestry Nominee Sherman Ag Nominee Harris Sherman Enemy Of Multiple-Use, oil and gas, mining, coal mining, timber, grazing, gravel extraction and recreation and much more. This is an all out call to action! Please forward this message widely and quickly. Your senator is on the US Senate Agriculture Committee. That committee will confirm or defeat Harris Sherman. They are holding a confirmation hearing Tuesday, September 29th. You must urge your Senator to investigate Harris Sherman and oppose his nomination. Urgent action is required by you to call, fax and e-mail your Senators to oppose the Harris Sherman nomination. The complete list of the Senate Agriculture Committee is listed below. You can call any Senator at (202) 224-3121. You can send an e-mail or fax to the staff person listed. That is the best way to send an e-mail to your Senator. Harris Sherman of Colorado has been nominated to take the place of Mark Rey as Under Secretary of Agriculture for Natural Resources and Environment. He would have responsibility over US Forest Service and the Natural Resources Conservation Service. He would be in charge of all activities under the Forest Service including the Roadless issue. Sherman is currently head of the Colorado Dept. of Natural Resources under the Governor Bill Ritter Administration. Here are some reasons why he should be defeated in the US Senate: -----1. Harris Sherman supports the Clinton-Babbitt Roadless rule and has worked in Colorado to revert to the Clinton-Babbitt Roadless Rule. -----2. He would be a threat to oil and gas, mining, coal mining, timber, grazing, gravel extraction and recreation and much more. -----3. According to residents of Colorado, Sherman used his position to extort or shake down money from oil and gas firms to fund his wildlife studies in return for his office not opposing their permits. In effect, he set up a pay to play approval process for oil and gas permits under the Colorado Dept. of Wildlife. -----4. He rewrote important environmental documents with the assistance of environmental activist groups negating public meetings and public comment. -----5. Environmental groups had special access under Harris not available to the public or other land users. -----6. He set up rules that infringed on private property. -----7. He set up a system whereby the CO Dept. of Wildlife could interfere with private contracts between farmers, ranchers and landowners and oil and gas and mining companies. He was able to blow up private contracts where he did not want oil and gas or mining operations to occur. -----8. Likely he will give environmental groups special control over the US Forest Service. His pattern is to feather his own nest and he would likely use the Forest Service to do that as he did in Colorado. -----9. This is another Obama appointee who has not been properly vetted. At the very least, the Senate should hold up the confirmation process until they get the full background on Harris Sherman. If you have additional horror stories about Harris Sherman, please make sure you send them to American Land Rights as well as to your Senator on the Agriculture Committee. You can send them to American Land Rights at ccushman@pacifier.com Senate Agriculture Committee Send your e-mail to the staff person listed. Keep in mind that there is an _ underscore between the first and last name of the staff person in their e-mail. It may not show through the underlining. Call any Senator at (202) 224-3121.
