RPM Optima Battery Holder

RPM Optima Battery Holder

This is a review on the RPM battery holder selling on EBay or the RPM site

I ask for mine powder coated, I didn’t really pay attention to how good the coating was, but there was no noticeable flaws.

After you remove the old battery and holder and zip tie a few wires and cables that run along the bottom out of the way this slides right into place. The Optima Yellow top battery fits in the new RPM holder very nicely.

The screws needed come with the holder. I choose not to use the screws for the bottom plate to bolt to the cross member, and I did use 2 spacers to lift the battery tray up about 1” off the bottom, my concern was a rock going thru the skid plate and damaging the battery. I just used 2 spacers and put them where the new tray bolts go into the stock tray bolt locations.

All and all I am more than pleased with my purchase.

Nice to know. I used the factory Ranger XP unit before the Optima units were made but so far I don't have a need to go larger, we'll see hoe long that lasts. LOL

Works good. I made the cut, moved some wires and stuck in the box. It bolted right up and holds the battery good.

Re: RPM Optima Battery Holder

I bought the holder and installed Optima Yellow Top for no important reason, other than for reliability and longetivity. Small batts seem to wear out sooner, and I want to install HID light. If I don't drive it for a while, I don't have to worry about a dead battery. Now, I can drive electrical stuff with an inverter, if I want to, with total confidence.

Re: RPM Optima Battery Holder

I must of had a different RZR. That box would not fit into mine at all. I tried it every way possible, and I really am not a dumb ass. I ended up cutting the stock box out like you mentioned but then I had to turn the battery "left to right" instead of front to rear just to get it to fit. I then welded the box to the frame and built some gussets off the frame to support the sides. I wonder in different generations have something different going on with the battery box??

Re: RPM Optima Battery Holder

I just built my own. I took a piece of 2" strap metal bent it into a L One leg was 10" the other 13" Then screwed it into the lower back frame brace and the upper forward brace that the seat sets on. I had to cut the stock box out. Then bolted a plastic battery box I got at Wal-mart to the brace I made. I also had to do some trimming to the box I got to make it fit. Then set the battery in and made a couple of spacers to use the factory battery strap. I did have to use different holes though.

If someone can tell me how, I will post pics.

Re: RPM Optima Battery Holder

I almost forgot. I also had to move the starter solenoid and the grounds on the frame brace. I just turned the solenoid bracket around and mounted the grounds under the bolts on it.
