Re: Which HIDS to buy

I've got HID's on everything. both my Ducati's, Harley,Miata,Vette,Ninja, and my BMW X5 which came with factory ones. My first set was the expensive ones and then I got the ones from Ebay sellers for as low as 69.00 for a set shipped. I have ordered over 30 sets for friends and myself, and 1/2 the sets had the same ballast as my BMW (same Euro markings). the ballast come now in 3 different kinds, the original larger one, slim, and just recently digital slim. it all depends on where you want to mount the ballast. most of my installs were on motorcycles and they just don't give you a lot of room. My Vette and Miata both have pop up headlights and I still had room to stuff them in the headlights with the older big ballasts. the digital slims do ignite the bulbs faster. when you look for a set, don't look for them by searching the RZR. search for them under the bulb type you use (H4,H7, and so on). they seem to charge more if you look under a particular model making you think they are made just for them. they especially get you when you buy a set for motorcycles which is only the one side of a complete set. I started buying car ones and just splitting the set with a friend, it was half the cost!. don't go past 6500K either for the lighting. the human eye can't register past 6000 Kelvin. anything above that and you'll start getting that purple hue and start losing usable light. they also only use 35 watts after the initial igniting of the bulbs.
hopefully this helps, sorry so long. -H

Thanks Harry just to clear something up when they say color 6500k 6000k 12000k is that the brightness and I did what you suggested and yeah your right 100 bucks cheaper. Looking at some now on Ebay thinking of paying the extra 15 bucks on your recomends for the lower number these are 3000k or am I going backwards on this and missing your point need them sorta bright riding on back country roads and so on. I think your saying stay at the 6k the others like 12k are way to bright and 3 k might not be bright enough Sorry reading writing and playing with a 2 year old if I confused you

6000-6500K is the highest light output you'll want. anything above that and you'll like a Civic coming down the trails with purple lights.

Re: Which HIDS to buy

some kits do come with a harness that wires in the bulbs directly to the battery. I would do a search and see if the RZR's need this setup or not. I have not yet decided to do mine yet, so I can't help you there.

Give Dirtlights.com a call. They gave me a discount for being a forum member. I just installed mine the other day and it took all of about 10 mins once I figured out where I wanted to mount everything. I was thinking about adding additional HIDs to a light bar but these are so bright I doubt I'll add any more lights to my ride.

AZ Re: Which HIDS to buy

Of course I am impartial to which kit to buy;

If you go with anything above 4300k you start losing lumens. 6000k is only about 2% off 4300k, almost all the kits we sell are 6000k. We do stock 4300k bulbs if you would like for very dusty conditions.

So what do you get by spending a bit more for our kit vs ebay junk vs $400 kits.

1. Warranty; in 3 years of doing lights, we have never made somebody buy a part that is not working. The legal fine print says 1 year, but good luck finding somebody that ever didn't get a replacement for free. Customer service is everything.

2. All our kits use the same bulbs everybody else does(including $400 kits). The difference is our ballast, Every kit we sell includes our own design slim ballast. We actaully changed the igniter circuit when we started selling aircraft kits to cut down on the RFI noise. Is is a big deal in a RZR? probably not, but at least you know you can run a race radio if you need. Don't beleive me, here is the data to prove it. Just look at the last picture:planelights.com - Mesa, Arizona - RFI comparison

3. Everything we sell is plug and play using 100% OEM connectors. Some how everybody thinks plug and play means cut and solder your harness then wrap everything with electrical tape and hope it deosn't get wet. No cutting, splicing, soldering with our kits. The plugs are all there, just plug in the adapter, mount the ballast and go.

I would love to sell lights for $60, our kits cost more to produce but are going to last you much longer. The Forum sale is still going $159 + shipping for a RZR kit, 4300k or 6000k.

Feel free to call/email/pm if you have any questions or would like to order.

Thanks
Steve

Re: Which HIDS to buy

I want to put HID's in my RZR as well. I've emailed BTS and they seem to be very responsive.

If anyone comes across a good setup...post up a link.

Is the difference between these kits and stock ...night and day in regards to output of light?
