LED Brake Light Problem

Is anyone else using LED brake lights? I just threw a set in, and they are supposed to run 1/3 bright in normal position and full bright when the brake is applied. Mine are the same no matter what.

I tried flipping them, etc and nothing. Just to make sure things were in proper working order I put the original bulbs back in and they were fine. I read about load equalizers, guessing that is the next step.

Any one else have experience with this?

Re: LED Brake Light Problem

Polaris does it weird -- the brake pedal switches the NEGATIVE lead instead of the positive lead (which is what everybody BUT Polaris does). With a normal bulb it doesn't matter, but LEDs are polarized.

The resistor trick works great. I'm running the same LED's as listed in that article link and they work great. I used 330ohm (I think?) resistors instead of the 470ohm ones, as I wanted the running lights a little brighter.

Re: LED Brake Light Problem

There is a full thread on PRC on this. Do a search for LED without relay. I've done the 330ohm resistor mod and it works great.

Re: LED Brake Light Problem

I didn't want the running lights so I clipped two of the leads on the bulbs so just the brights turn on when I apply the brake pedal.

Re: LED Brake Light Problem

The resistor mod works. You don't want your running lights to bright because it will melt the lens if you get mud on the lens.

Re: LED Brake Light Problem

I did the mod but had one problem, when sliding the cover off of the led, I had one of the legs come out of the board. It seems that it must have been a cold solder joint from the factory. After repairing the loose leg, i had another one of them pop loose. I ended up having to go buy another pak of the lights to finish the job. my luck..
