Helmet radio/bluetooth

I've been looking at various helmet systems for communication/music/bluetooth (for cell phones), but I'm still not too sure which is the right way to go.

Any suggestions? I would like something that is capable of driver-passenger radio/intercom communication + bluetooth for a cell phone + radio/Ipod.

Re: Helmet radio/bluetooth

The new Chatterbox frsx1 systems are bluetooth compatable......I think you can get a unit that makes your mp3 player bluetooth as well....I have a set of the chatterbox units (not bluetooth) for my entire family....We enjoy talking with each other and listening to music when we ride....
If you are only interested in the intercom, they are much cheaper than the radios, but they are only rider/passenger communication and not rider/rider....

Re: Helmet radio/bluetooth

not quite sure I follow.... during my motorcycle days, we all had the Chatterbox FHS units which would communicate to anyone else who had one. Other drivers, passengers, whomever. The units don't know if someone's driving or not.

The one we used also had an aux input for a radio/mp3. It didn't have bluetooth but I'm sure they've solved that by now.

Re: Helmet radio/bluetooth

I'm really liking the Chatterbox with bluetooth. So far I'm leaning towards that one.

The intercom only units allow the driver/passenger to communicate via a cable, but do not have a radio in them....The frs, gmrs, and hjc units have radios that not only incorporate an intercom, but a radio as well that allows operators of different machines to communicate with each other....This is what I meant when referring to drivers/passengers....The intercom is driver/passenger, and the others with a radio is driver/driver,which simply means two different machines...

ah, gotcha. Now that you say that I remember. That's why we all got the "main" frs units. More $ but much nicer

It would need to be a pretty smart receiver to mute the tunes when a phonecall comes in and when speaking between driver/passenger yet not mute the phonecall if the passenger starts blabbing about something during the call...

Not sure about the collett, but the chatterbox does this....The music will turn off if you have an incoming call, or if you recieve a transmission or talk....

Re: Helmet radio/bluetooth

This is the system we use in our RZR...we have a rear seat and two children they use the Scala Rider sets...me and the Wife Scala Q2's...attached them to Ear Muffs...Peltor Juniors for the kiddos...and
Leightning L2F Earmuff-Folding Ear Muffs for us...best deal on ebay from 3AlarmDeals...Cardo is coming out with an Eight Person capable unit in January 09, but price is going to be around $250 to $300 each! The Q2's can communicate with 3 people (including Scala Riders)...all have a FM Radio on board so you can pick the sation you want and save up to 6...Bluetooth works great with garmin GPS I have the Zumo 550...also BT works with my wife's phone and mutes radio automatically...will continue testing...
We all wanted to be able to communicate better and protect the kiddos ears when crusing...the kids can have FM on the Scala Riders but we don't let them listen...too young!!!
Pros: A little over $500 for everything
You can purchase extra headsets at Cardo cheap for additional Helmets...when I ride my Quad I mount mine on my helmet while she is in the RZR...basic line of sight communications up to 200-300 yds max...I know it says 500m, but it's asking a little too much...
OK the Cons I can communicate with my Wife and one child, she can Communicate with me and one child so you have to relay messages sometime with 4 of us...

Re: Helmet radio/bluetooth

I use a Scala Rider on my M/C helmet and it works great. It's blue tooth and can be taken on/off in seconds. they have several models for intercoms,FM, and passenger setups.
