Stock Battery Replacement questions...

Well, i went out to the barn yesterday to discover that the battery on the RZR is dead...really dead...Since I have to put a new one in, it might as well be a good one...but which one? I have seen some posts about Odyssey and Optima battery's, but I know nothing about what spec battery I need. My biggest draw is my winch and other than that, in the future I would like to run HID headlights and some LED's as well as a stereo.

What do you guys recommend for brand of battery?

Anything specific I should be looking for as a spec on the battery to power my winch and future accessories?

Thanks for the help!

Re: Stock Battery Replacement questions...

X2....Get an Odyysey PC925L, it will easily run the accesories that you mentioned. I have one, as do most guys I ride with. No issues for any of us! Due to the Odyysey being heavier, if you do any jumping, you will need some added support or you will crack the plastic battery box. I added an 1/8" aluminum piece under mine to support it. I have a thread I started on it. I am at work on my phone so I cant help ya find it....do an advanced search for my post using the word Odyysey.

so do I understand the Odyssey 925 is the same dimentions of the OEM battery with the same hookups only it's heavier? Any idea how much heavier? What I was wondering about was would a aftermarket battery holder be needed?

Re: Stock Battery Replacement questions...

it is the same size if you set it on its edge which you can do with an odessey. It is an AGM (absorbed glass matt) battery that can be postitioned in anyway.

I use the stock battery box for the past 2 years. Do some jumping, lots of duning. No issues at all!

This is the holder I purchased. Actually less than I paid. It's nice because it's bent with tab's to specifically hold this battery.

Odyssey Batteries Aluminum side mount hold down for the PC925 series P/N- HD925SM - Can be used on all PC925 models: PC925, PC925 T, PC925 MJT, PC925 MJ, PC925 L, PC925 LMJ

It is a little taller than the stock battery after you install it on its side. All you need is a small spacer or a few washers under the hold down bar and it works fine.
As for the plastic box breaking, both Johnnycat8 & Giff-Turbo RZR have had theirs break. I put my support piece in during my battery install. I learned about the problem from their misfortune

Re: Stock Battery Replacement questions...

I have the Odyssey 925 also, couldnt be happier. You don't have to have the L model by the way, I don't, and the cables reach just fine. It is a little taller than the stock battery, but it fits.

Re: Stock Battery Replacement questions...

Don if you have a "Gen1" rzr these won't fit your steel battery box. You can get an aftermarket metal box as mentioned above, or a molded Ranger box (cheap, drops right in).

The Gen1 box will only accept the stock-size battery. Too bad really--it's very well made.

not on a rzr 4. it is same size. I dropped mine in and used the stock rubber strap and hooked up the cables. works like a champ with 4 40W HIDs plus the HID stock conversion I never saw the battery indicator come on. next i will be adding the tribal 30" led bar as well.

Re: Stock Battery Replacement questions...

Right on! Good info all. I seem to understand here that the Odyssey is the way to go.

Thanks Mark for pointing out the battery box!

Re: Stock Battery Replacement questions...

picked up a Odessey PC925 yesterday from Batteries Plus... they have a 10% off coupon on their website it retails in Denver for $185... cheapest I could find online was $165 with free shipping... with the 10% off coupon we were right at $185 after tax... so I could have saved maybe $20 and waited a week, instead we got ours in town.

I told the manager he should start stocking more of these... they will be selling

Thing is huge compared to stock, its the size of two stockers, lay it on its side and it fits our S perfectly...

1988 Bronco II, 5.0L Gt-40p, 4r70w, 35" MTZ, dual ARBs, long travel
2007 FJ cruiser, 3" OME, dual ARBs, 4.56, 33" MTR
2005 (2ea) 900 RMK, 159", modified
2009 Rzr S - way too stock

Re: Stock Battery Replacement questions...

FYI the battery shown in my photo above is the same size, type (AGM) and rating as the Odyssey, is made in the USA, but costs 1/2.
Google "Magna ETX30L" and take your pick. Bought mine at Battery Giant but I've also seen them at some Meijers stores.
