Tip Over & Battery Drain??
Well it was bound to happen. I put mine on its side yesterday. and it wasn't graceful. Deffinitaly an insurance claim. Roll bar dented and bent about 2" to the left. Front fener scrached to sh*t. Bimini ripped. But thats all expected.....about a half hour of riding after my battery light started to flash. Drove as far as I could before it died and got towed home. Got home and the battery had a little more juice but only enought to turn it over about 4 times. I check my connections at the bat and the grounds under the seat and everything looks..OK. Any ideas.
FYI...I installed a Trail armor seal kit and had my front plastic off. I greased all my electrial connections in the front end and after I put it all back together. My tach read "0" while idling, but read when I increased the engine speed........what could have happend there. I didn't disconnect the Speedo harness....??? Could this and my bat drain be connected somehow? Thanks

Can you give us some details about what led up to putting it on its side? Speed? Incline? Powersliding? Just curious. Sorry but I have no input on your associated electrical problem.

Re: Tip Over & Battery Drain??
lol....mid speed power slide on loose gravel....loose gravel turned to packed dirt........also a 2" lift with 27" XTR.....not the best set up for sliding. But boy, she went over fast.

Re: Tip Over & Battery Drain??
Thanks for the honesty. I'm trying to get a feel for what people are doing to tip them over so that I can avoid it. I run a 2" lift as well with 26" MTRs but I also run 1.5" spacers all around. Feels fairly solid.

Re: Tip Over & Battery Drain??
I've turned mine over 3 times and always on the passenger side. Mine is a gen 2 and the battery his held in by a metal strip. The first time I put it on its side the positive terminal on the battery came in contact with that metal strip, it made contact through that protective boot and arced about 1/4 inch into the metal strip. It drained my batt somewhat but it had enough to start it. The batt isnt in there real snug so I jamed some foam in the box to make it tight . No problems with the other two turn overs.

first time - tried to spin around real quick in loose dirt, did fine halfway through until i hit real grippy ground. Second time- tried to cross over a little creek at an angle and the left side dropped of the creek bank first, the bank was steeper than I thought and she went over. Third time, just turned to quick no sliding at all.

Re: Tip Over & Battery Drain??
How many of those times required a roll bar replacement?

Re: Tip Over & Battery Drain??
Brought it in to the dealer after trying one more time.
STATOR IS TOAST.
Wasn't even charging at all.
They wont be able to get to it till next week so Im throwing in a 1000CC semi battery for a ride on sunday. That should get me through the day.
Quad has about 600 miles on it and wether its from the roll over or not I have no Idea. But they're warrantying it anyway.
