Bad Design
My 2c here, I have installed the Odyssey PC925 and after testing it on a night ride, using the light that polaris has for the RZR, 3 on top and 2 on the front Baja Bumper, still the ALT can't handel the lights, battery icon comes on and if you keep on rideing your RZR will turn OFF.
Now I know that NO battery size no matter how big it is or output it has, if ATL can't keep up with your lights or other acc's,
THE BATTERY AND YOUR RZR WILL GO DEAD ;-(
IT IS JEST A BAD DESIGN WHEN YOU CAN'T USE THE POLARIS STANDARD LIGHTS FOR THE RZR ;-(

Re: Bad Design
Switch to HID bulbs... you'll get MORE light output, but they draw less current!
Most bright halogens are 55W, and the HID's are 35W...
If you have 5 additional lights, that's 100-watts saved, plus you can change the stock headlights to HID, too!

Re: Bad Design
I went with a LED light bar from Rigid Industries. The LED's draw even less amps than the HID's and put out more light.

Do the LED's need a ballast like the HIDs? It's always such a pain to find another place to mount the ballast everytime that you want to add a HID.

Re: Bad Design
Before you spend more money get your alternator well and truly checked, and have a good complain to your dealer too, hopefully the feedback will reach Polaris and if the alternator really isn't suitable they'll do something about it for future models.

Re: Bad Design
Do what you can to keep it running cooler, too. The fan is a huge current draw.

Re: Bad Design
LED's don't need a ballast...
BUT!
The bright ones are REALLY expensive...

Re: Bad Design
I have heard good things about the rzr alternator kit from RPMFAB in Phoenix. you can get them on ebay or their web site- they have a good reputation too.

Oh you've "heard good things"? I sure as hell wouldn't trust a dealer who hides his identity in a forum. You think it's wise to use an avatar with RPMFAB.COM across the top of your Rzr??

Re: Bad Design
WHat do you have to do to switch to HID bulbs? Can you just switch bulbs? Or, does it require others mods? What is the cost to change over the stock setup?

You need the HID bulbs, and a "ballast" set-up...
HID lights are actually an arc of electricity, not a filament like a standard bulb. The Ballast is what ignites the arc, and produces the voltage needed to maintain the arc of electricity.
You can find kits on Ebay that range from $50-$500 depending on the brand, and in SOME cases, the quality.
Keep in mind, that 90% of HID kits (including some claiming to be the premium brands) get their parts from the SAME manufacturers, most being in China and Korea. It is usually not worth investing in the expensive kits, because even those can fail.
Typically, a ballast will fail before a bulb will. In any case, you can use almost ANY ballast, with ANY bulb type or color, as long as the connections are the same (which 95% of them are, these days). A replacement ballast will run from $30-$100 depending on where you get it.
Bulbs can be switched out to produce a variety of colors, depending on what you're looking for.... 4300K is the most "white" and closest to the color temp of the sun. The higher you go, the more "blue" it gets... 6000K and 8000K are good choices if you want blue, but anything more than that starts to get purple, and the light output actually decreases.
So, in short!
Find a kit with the proper size bulb you need, DONT spend a lot on it, because they're reasonably reliable (even the cheap ones) and easy to get cheap parts for, if you have a part fail. I recommend 4300-6000K if you want usable light.
