Battery/Low Voltage/Volt Reg Question

Hi all. I did do a bunch of research on this site before posting, so bear with me here......

08 RZR, stock battery, under seat volt reg, factory radio (with no other aux electrical loads).

My battery icon flashes quite a bit (at least once a ride). My RZR is always on a battery tender, has no other lights or anything, and the icon flashing occurs regardless of outside temp. I get a full charge out of my battery when on the tender, and the icon stops flashing as soon as I turn the radio off and increase my speed a little.

I intend on repl my battery (when needed) with an odyssey and have already bought a bracket to relocate the VR. (the plug and play harness extension supplier is done making them, tho).

Any ideas on what's up and what I should look at next? THANKS!

The stator is not putting out enough charge to run the radio when at slow speeds, hence speeding up or turning off the radio cures problem. This could be due to faulty regulator, a poor connection (dirty),bad ground,over heating regulator or an aging battery. I would check and clean all connectors from harness to voltage reg and check battery connections and ground. Also if you have a multimeter check how much load the radio is pulling

Thanks RJ......I'll check all that tomorrow.

Do you think a higher amp-hour batt like the odyssey would solve the low output problem? Also, it sounds like, on this site, the VR relocation doesn't help much.....would you agree?

their was no factory radio polaris makes a add on but not a stock one....i wonder if they ran the power off the stock fuse block or ass terminall...... id re run the power to the battery and see if that fixes it... to much draw off the factory fuse box takes power from the ecm and fuel pump and can cause the light to flash

Great idea......I'll check into that, too.

(btw, by factory radio, I mean Polaris Advertises it as "pure Polaris," they sell it, and install it without voiding the warranty.)

I disagree, i think the VR relocation helps quite a bit, problem is that damage can be done to VRs if they are constantly overheated and people might be relocating a damaged VR.

A new battery will only help the system if the old battery is defective and drawing too much due to an internal short. Having said that a higher capacity battery will allow you to run more load for longer before an over taxed stator situation arises.

x2 on moving the vr.... mine has over heated and shut down a few times im going to move it just not sure were yet i have a few places im thinking of...

Sooooooooooo, I know where to get a VR and the bracket is already in my mits.....

Where can I get a plug and play harness? Autotrend no longer makes that harness due to decreased demand.

I don't want to cut, solder/splice if not necessary.

Yes, but I'd have to buy a special crimper that would only get used for this one project (unless you all think my normal/standard crimper can get the job done). Lemme know if that special packard crimper aint so special.......

Have you checked with UTVCrap yet? I think they might have what you are looking for.

I've got a few people looking at them at the moment. Hopefully I'll have them sold in a day or two.

I was digging around UTVCraps website/forum and I couldn't find the harness so I may be wrong on that one so give them a call and ask. I could have sworn I saw another vendor offering a VR relocation harness just recently. Have you actually called auto trend to see if they have any on the shelf or perhaps they you might convince them to build you one?
