HID startup problem
I just replaced my stock lights with HIDs. The first 5 or 6 times that I turned them on one of them would come on for about 5 seconds then turn off. After the 5th of 6th time it came on and stayed on. I haven't had any trouble since. Anyone experience this? Anyone know what could have caused it?

Re: HID startup problem
Check your voltage. HID's require a lot of voltage on startup.

Re: HID startup problem
ya, their not gettin enough power to fire..
dont use your factory wiring harness run new heavier wires and a relay.. i used to have the same problem but now i have no problems.. i have 6 of them and the wiring change will let me leave the switch on when it's not running, i can start it up and all 6 of them come on just fine

Re: HID startup problem
Thanks guys. I was turning them on without it running so it makes sense that voltage was the problem. I appreciate all of your responses.

Re: HID startup problem
I never had a problem, but I like to set RPM to around 3,000 before switching them on, just for the extra volts.

Re: HID startup problem
Double check all your wire connections, even if you THINK they're tight...
In cars I've had, when I had an issue like that, I would sometimes re-wire the ground wire for the headlight kit.
I'd find which wire coming from the stock plug was the 12v power wire, and still use that wire for the supply to the HID ballast... but I would take the OTHER wire which is obviously the ground, and run it straight to the chassis. Sometimes a better ground solves all your problems...

Re: HID startup problem
yep, if it's not running, that would cause it. battery voltage drops and 1 flickers or doesn't start.

Re: HID startup problem
Ya like stated before i am sure it was a voltage issue causing one of the HID ballasts to cycle and turn off then try to turn back on again. An alternative to the HID setup is the new LED light bars they give off equal to or more light then an HID and have a much lower electrical draw pretty cool but a little expensive right now

Re: HID startup problem
Ya the OEM HID kits require a fair amount of juice to kick them on but once they fire they draw the same or less amps depending on the vehicle.
