Pyle Hydra Wakeboard speakers
if you're running the pyle hydra wakeboard speakers on your cage or l&r rack, i'm sure you've learned that the clamps they come with break really easily and have replaced them with aluminum clamps or something else (i did)
yesterday i found out about another short coming of these speakers.
on mine i noticed cracks at the base (around the plastic lip where the pad for the aluminum block is)
these cracks were on both speakers.. the speakers arent' strong enough to support their own weight. bounces in a boat are much less severe than bouncing around in a rzr i guess.
i did manage to fix them and re-inforce them and thought i'd share my solution.
i took the speakers apart unsoldered the speakers to get them out of the way.
then i took off my homemade aluminum blocks.
i used two strips of .190 aluminum and rolled it so it fit inside the speaker housing.. the strips wrapped a little over half way around the inside of the houseing. once i got it in there where it was a good tight i marked my four holes in the aluminum strips and drilled them.
sand the aluminum strip as well as the inside of the speaker housing where the strip will sit to rough it up..
on mine i used an epoxy that was designed for plastic (it's more flexible) and i used a whole tube of it on each speaker.. doped up the inside of the speaker housing.
then i squeezed the strip a little so i could get it in ontop of the epoxy. once it was close i let go of the strip and dropped it into place, moved it around a little to line up the holes and cleaned up the epoxy that got all over the terminals..
put your aluminum clamps back on and tighten them down, then use a couple of clamps to clamp the sides of the strip to the inside of the housing..
this stuff sets in like 7 minutes so after about 20(when the epoxy stops being sticky) minutes i removed the clamps and souldered the speaker wires back to the terminals.. put the whole thing back together and put it back on..
after a couple of hours i checked them by pulling on them and they were rock solid..
i believe they are fixed now and will be ok..

Re: Pyle Hydra Wakeboard speakers
ya i've had these speakers on since june of last year, they've really held up pretty well, they've always been out in the weather, but the plastic in them is a little more brittle than i'd like to see. i think they will be fine now..
