Front axle removal tips?

So I broke a front axle on my 08 std about a month ago ( I left for work right after it happened) and I will be attempting to replace it when I get in. My question is: are there any tips to remove it? The only thing left of the axle is the inside cv (cup and spline?) that goes into the front diff. I had this happen on an 08 sportsman and never did get the cv out of the diff. I tried prying it out, pb blaster, everything I could think of and could never get it out. Has anyone else had this problem and could possibly throw me some tips or suggest a special tool I'm unaware of? Thanks ahead of time!

Disconnect the shocks and the A arms. Grab hold of the axle and jerk pull it from the diff.

Do you have a slide hammer? That's what I ended up using to get mine out. I think I saw a company that actually made an adapter for removing cv's with at slide hammer. I just used the "L" attachment and worked my way around the cv trying not to pull too hard in any one direction.

I have also found that Kroil seems to loosen seized parts better than PB. Smells better too.

When I installed the new axles, I used anti seize on the splines to hopefully make removing them the next time a bit easier.

The axle is not complete, I jerked on it so much to where the only thing left is the inner cv inside of the front diff

Ha looks like I posted that right after you did I was replying to the other post, I'm looking online now for a slide hammer. That seems to be the best route

Re: Front axle removal tips?

That's what I've been trying to think of for hours, a slide hammer but I couldn't remember what it was called. That would be your best bet, pretty much perfect for what you're doing

14 Ace, 26" pro comp extremes on 14" msa m17 elixer wheels, total blast!
And a 600rwhp 03 powerstroke on 37" mud grapplers to haul it all

I used a large 3' screw driver. Slid it between the cv cup and diff and popped right out.
