2012 Polaris Sportsman 800 EFI

Ok, need some opinions on this atv. My son is wanting a new atv and I made a deal with him. If he gets a job and makes the payments, I will finance it for him. If he misses 1 payment I will take it and his truck and sell them both to pay it off. So, with that said, I need opinions on it. I know there are other brands out there, but I am only concerned about this specific one because I can get it out the door for under 6500 and that will give him a payment below 200 a month for 3 years. Anyways, what are your thoughts? He currently has a 2007 Honda Foreman 500. (yes I know this is a rzr forum).

Re: 2012 Polaris Sportsman 800 EFI

I have had a bunch of friends that owned the 800 sportsman. They were all happy for the most part with them. They would blow belts every so often but that was through heavy beating on the machines and also maybe not shifting into low when crawling all the time. We would always have debates over that but thats a whole other story. I personally am a fan of can-am atv's myself, i never owned a polaris atv. At my hunting club i am the only member that doesnt own a polaris atv, i have a can-am renegade. Good luck with your purchase!

Have you ridden any of thier atvs? He likes can am as well, but it would be 3k more. He also likes honda, but again 3k more. As far as thier dependabilty with the polaris, how has it been?

haha thats good. Not to start a crap storm but, my buddys with their polaris sportsman 850 xp's have a TON of problems with them. These are the guys who sold their 800's to get the 850's. The bushings are for (1 time use only) lol. The stock tires are horrible and the front control arms are crap also. I am just giving a honest report of what my fellow club members are experiancing. I have to say though that the ride on the 850's are ALOT smoother then on my renegade. For rocky tuff terrain polaris sure has it nailed down. I will pull on the xp's with my gade in the trails, but im working for it hard. This is all subject to who is riding the machine also.

My buddy has a 2008 Popo Sportsman 800 that hasn't even gotten one ride out west without having something break on the trail or wear out for 2 full years. Taking his loss and selling it for cheap since he has been saying he will get it in good working order and then sell but..... POS IMO.

Re: 2012 Polaris Sportsman 800 EFI

Not a fan of Polaris quads. Heavy and they just don't feel fun.

Side by sides on the other hand. Wouldnt own any other brand!

14 scrambler 1000, 28 mega mayhems on 14" sixr wheels, qsc clutched on hardest setting
14 Ace, 26" pro comp extremes on 14" msa m17 elixer wheels, total blast!
And a 600rwhp 03 powerstroke on 37" mud grapplers to haul it all
13 fx4 a/p on 35"grapplers, 6.2l

Re: 2012 Polaris Sportsman 800 EFI

I would love to see how these guys are riding. I have owned several sportsmans and never an issue. Started with a 400 two stroke, got a 500 6x for the farm, traded for a 700 and finally an 800. I have buddy's who "had" honda, yamaha and can am until they rode my Polaris.
I hunt at a big deer and duck club and there is only one die hard honda owner left.
We ride hard in the off season, plow and plant fields, drive in flooded fields, pull boats to the marsh and they run perfect.

Re: 2012 Polaris Sportsman 800 EFI

I had an 800 sportsman and loved it! It would haul a$$ and do anything I wanted to do. Sold it to get my rzr because I got married and have 2 kids now.
