I've got a venom 4k, it's great for the price. Only had it on for a month or so, but it already pulled me out of some nasty spots.

What I like about it is, I got cable & synthetic rope, both fair leads, and all the mounting brackets for the rzr. It is a tad slow, but like I said, for the price it's great.

Re: Venom Winch?

I can't speak for the venom. But the Viper is a good winch. I had a buddy running one and never had a bit of trouble. I am a very strong believer and promoter of the Promark winches. I am running a 3500 on my rzr now and had one on my previous wheeler.
Good friend of mine has a 3500 on his wheeler and we have used it to pull out everything from my rzr to his truck and also his 30 horse tractor. Very strong winches that never give up. All metal gears. Good prices.
This is the model i'm running and i love it.

Re: Venom Winch?

I can't comment either way about the quality of VENOM winches. I can give some history and perspective if it helps. The person who sells them used to work for us at Motoalliance. He upped and left one Friday afternoon and began selling winches only on Ebay about six weeks later. He runs both VENOM and XTREME winches there.

The biggest difference now is that we are a full powersports' operation with engineers that design our products (including our VIPER winches), while offering full support on phones and with techs and engineers. We also sell through over 200 dealers nationwide. VENOM and XTREME winches are stock winches with a private label and there is no phone support.

Again, this does not mean VENOM winches are not good winches or that you shouldn't buy them. Guys have obviously had success with them. I noticed that there was some about VENOM and some about VIPER here and like to differentiate between the two companies.

Good luck with your choice! There are a lot of good options out there.

Re: Venom Winch?

A little off topic but just curious, where are the VIPER winches made? I don't know if I have ever seen one in person for sure but every brand of winch I have seen has the exact same dash switch, remote control, solenoid box and cables all look the same. Even the color codeing is wrong on alot of different brands which leads me to believe either all of the components are made in the same factory and just branded different or everybody buys the components from the same company and makes minor changes and then names it whatever. I know for a fact that parts from several of the chineese winches will fit on major(not gonna name)name brand winches.I keep hearing about winches with plastic gears in them but the only one I have seen is a very small winch that came from a tractor store that cost like 65 dollars and was used to lift a crawfish cooker basket lol. lasted about a year before it just totally died. I took it apart and it had plastic gears which were fine but the motor was bad. I've had a few various winches, 1500-5000#,apart and all had metal gears. Not saying they're not out there I just havent seen one. I've had good luck with mine and if it goes out I'll look at a better alternative that I can verify a difference other than a sticker and higher price.

Re: Venom Winch?

You hit on all the key points. Everyone is getting either their winches fully made -- or major components made -- in China. WARN has a factory presence there as well. The only difference is that they might assemble the overall package here in the States and then it can be "Made in the USA." But there is basically one factory in China that makes all the solenoids for example. We've added our own design flair to them as we have a very dedicated factory for the overall production of our VIPER winches. As we are their top customer, we have some leverage in design. That said, we are looking at making a fully American electrical system for 2013 or 2014 as electrical is the most difficult part of any winch.

Our VIPER winches are made in TS-16949 factory meaning they have to be made with military grade materials and fully documented processes in order to be sold. So that is one other dimension of this. Winches can use lots of different grades of materials, and we tried to use the highest grades available believing that quality matters most in the winch (as long as we can keep the cost reasonable.)

Hope that helps.
