Re: Anyone use rv with front deck?

Maybe its the S1? Whatver one is the largest. The cargo area is 12x8. It would be a TIGHT fit to get it on sideways

Re: Anyone use rv with front deck?

I just bought one just like this..... Used 2009 Starcraft THRILL SEEKER 21SSD Travel Trailer For Sale -

It has a 8 by 8 deck with a capacity of 1500 lbs on the deck. I am going to do a little work on it and get my RZR to fit.

I have a couple of ideas. I would like fit it on front to back. Not side to side. I am thinking about moving the propane tanks and building a little extension where the propane tanks are. I only need another 6 inches. I would probably go 1 foot to be safe. I could move the propane tanks to inside the cargo area. I would like to back the RZR on from the front/side and basically parallel park it right in the middle. Imagine the front wheels were the propane tanks are. with the motor in back of the deck I don't think tongue weight would be a problem. I also have a Honda CRF 450X and a Honda CRF 50 for my son. I could put on on both sides of it and be loaded up.......

The other idea I have is to move the propane tanks, batteries and the jack on the front. Again build a foot onto the deck and put 2 jacks on the front. I would probably put 2 electric jacks up there. Each about 1 foot in from each front corner. That would leave me a 6 foot gap in the middle and I could back the RZR straight on. Of course the downfall here is I would have to unhook from the truck if I wanted to load or unload. Hence the electric jacks.....lol.

I think with the first idea I could load and unload while hooked to the truck.....I dont know....I would like to hear opinions on this. Has anybody seen or tried this???

Re: Anyone use rv with front deck?

Forvm member FBI guy has a new one of that design and he modded the front end for loading the front. He sourced the heavy ga stock on his own and got thin substrate from my office. he made shrouds and guards. His mods looked nice. Super nice guy.
will call him and get him to post and share

I would make sure you brace, brace and brace some more. A RZR with mods, fuel, etc weighs in at 1200-1500lbs. Thats a lot of tongue weight no matter what kind of tow vehicle you have; rear spring helpers or airbags are going to be a must as well. I wouldnt do it, to much weight up there. But just my 2 cents.

Re: Anyone use rv with front deck?

Dual wheel trailer with a weight distribution hitch could help that tongue weight problem out a bit.

the proper tow vehicle atleast a 3/4 ton truck will be the key...WD hitch will help, but you load 1000lbs+ on the tongue or near it, and its gonna affect things

Re: Anyone use rv with front deck?

Yes, but 1500 lbs on the deck wont translate to anywhere near that on the tonque, especially with a WD hitch. I put a Sportsman X2 on my trailer (single 6000# axle) about half way between the axle and the hitch (the RZR is centered over the axle with the engine weight behind the axle) and I have about 500 lbs on the tongue. It squats my F150 very little and pulls nice because the tonque weight is within the 10-15% recommended range of the total trailer weight.

If the deck is rated at 1500# then the RZR should be ok, especially if he moves the propane tanks to the back (moves more of the weight to the rear of the rig.) I would load it forward if he could to move the weight of the RZR engine closer to the trailer axles as well.

I have kz rockclimber and I have been hauling my razr on the front of it for a couple of years now. Mounted sideways I'm a couple of inches over legal limits. But its not been a problem. With any kind of law enforcers. Pass them all the time on the highways. And most of them stair at it. Its pretty heavy. But has not bothered me do to air bags on my tundra. Yes tundra 5.7L with my wifes scrambler in the back of the truck as well. I have weighed my set up and it is 10,500lbs when fully loaded. Rides fine at even higher speeds. 75/80mph. I think one thing that helps is the equalizer hitch and air bags. They make it very stable. Will try posting a couple of picks.

Re: Anyone use rv with front deck?

With an ATV in the back of the truck and a 10000 lb trailer behind that tundra, you are way over your cargo capacity. It is not just about getting past LE..it's about safety.

Tundra should be between 1300 and 1700 lbs payload, depending on model and options (check your "tread act" sticker in your door jamb....might be different, I am using numbers I found online). 10000 lbs normal trailer would be 1000-1500 lbs on the tongue....I hear toy haulers are tongue heavy, so yours might be more. Throw a 500 lb ATV in the back, and a couple people in the cab...and their stuff, and you are 1000 lbs over your payload. No weight distribution hitch will take care of that.

Sean

Re: Anyone use rv with front deck?

Yeah bro, I use airbags and a equalizer Hitch, but those are mainly to keep your rig and truck level. Your Axel and tires have weight limits that air bags and hitches won't change.

Drive it like you stole it!

Re: Anyone use rv with front deck?

I have been hauling my rzr sideways for a couple years with zero issues. Here is a couple pics. Tow vehicle is 3/4 ton dodge with 5.7 hemi. I use wheel bonnets from harbor freight to strap the rzr down and it does not move at all.

Here's a pic of my scorpion hauler. They are getting hard to find but the only one of this style I could find big enough to haul my 1000xp

Re: Anyone use rv with front deck?

Some of these rigs are interesting to look at. I thought about one but decided on a fully enclosed toy hauler. It is a trail lite made by Rvision. It is 32 feet long including the hitch and has a slide on it. The garage is 9.5 feet. It weighs about 6k empty. When I load my rzr and a bunch of gear I figure I'm at about 8500 lbs which is the tow weight of my 05 Dodge Ram 1500 quad cab with hemi. I use a wd hitch of course and have been using this rig since 2007. My dodge now has 135k on it and is running fine. Our rzr fits just fine in the garage and is easy to load and unload. I have no plans to make any changes. A 2500 truck would be good but I won't make that change until my 1500 is worn out. That could be quite a while.

Re: Anyone use rv with front deck?

Just asking because I dont know. Why not just get a traditional toy hauler trailer? You would get more living & vehicle space and your toys would be enclosed and sitting over the axles when transporting. What's the benefit's of buying a front deck trailer?
