battery light flashing-- New battery and light still flashes

My battery light flashed from time to time for the last 1/2 of last season but the machine always started fine and seamed fine other than the lights would dim slightly when at idle but I figured that was normal. It always seamed the battery light would flash when I was riding, esp. under hard acceleration when the battery should be charging the best, but rarely did it flash at idle when I would think it would not generate as much power.

I Parked the machine for a month or so and went to get it out of the shed and battery was completely flat. Won't even register when I put it on my optimate 3. So I bought a new battery from a local atv shop, they said they have had great luck with these batteries. I put it in and seamed fine but after a few minutes riding around the yard, the battery light started flashing again, only for a few seconds then stopped, then started again a little while later.. The machine seams to start fine and the battery is new and strong..

What else could be going on here??

Sounds to me like the charging system isn't charging enough volts/amps. I see this all the time in the automotive world. Should take to someone that knows how to test the charging system properly.

Thanks guys.. This site is a HUGE HELP!!

Put a volt meter on the battery then start it up.check the volts with it running should be well above 12.now turn on all of the lights and what ever you have, keeping a eye on the volt meter give it some gas and see if the volt meter goes up.

Re: battery light flashing-- New battery and light still flashes

AFTER cleaning your battery cables. That means bright and shiny on mating surfaces and yes they can look good but be dirty so you must take them off and brush them shiney. Borrow a quality voltmeter and measure battery voltage at the battery with engine at idle, engine at high rpm, engine at idle with headlights on bright and engine at high rpm wiht headlights on bright. not a complete test but might give us a clue as to what is going on. Charging system should be able to maintain battery voltage at idle 13.6 to 14.2. Engine not running should be 12.5 to 13.6. voltage may drop below 13.6 when idling whith lights on but should increase to above 13.6 at high idle. Poor boy diagnosis but works most of hte time.

Re: battery light flashing-- New battery and light still flashes

Also check you wires in the harness and regulator they break sometimes and will cut your voltage down. Johnnycat had this problem and he found the wires when he rebuilt the rzr.

There are grounds to the frame as well. Someone here posted that his ground to the frame was stripped out and had to re-bolt it. Might check that as well
