New frame, VIN issues

Anyone had a new frame installed? How did you get your VIN switched over or get a new VIN?

I got my 08 back today after a collision with a new frame. Well the replacement frames dont have a VIN. And my old VIN is just a sticker which I am sure cant be pulled off and reused.

To make matters a little harder, the old frame was an 08 standard. The new frame is an 09 S frame. Not sure if that matters.

Re: New frame, VIN issues

Honda replaced my frame years ago on a 400ex and the vin was a sticker as well. They stamped the vin into the new frame for me. Hope this helps.

Re: New frame, VIN issues

I thought the VIN was in several locations on a Rzr? Maybe it's on the engine, too?

Re: New frame, VIN issues

I think you have to have the dmv guys stamp a new one on it for you. Or you could go get a bunch of letter dies and do it yourself...

Re: New frame, VIN issues

I did a swap too. The new frame has no vin for sure, and here I had to have a guy come out and check it out for stolen parts ect. and he stamped a new one in, actually it was a plate that was rivited on. But I know its a program that our government runs up here in alberta. Maybe there is something similar for you?

Maybe you can get lucky and just stamp your old vin on a steel plate and do the same thing and call it a day.

Re: New frame, VIN issues

buy a stamp kit and do it yourself, just keep a copy of your invoice for the frame where you can prove it if need be. S frame is same as standard its the a-arms, shocks and a rear gusset across the back that makes it a S

Re: New frame, VIN issues

we always cut the section of old frame where it was stamped and made it a nice little plate that we tacked to the new frame.....as long as you have a bill of sale or title and a copy of the invoice where you bought the frame you should never have a problem.....also the dnv should be able to issue you a new vin plate,,,
