Lets talk tools

Specifically for working on the RZR. I am currently assembling my "wish/buy list" of tools as an upgrade from the usual assortment of tool kits I have bought over the years. I am not talking about top of the line Snap On or the like, just good quality tools and accessories ,like Craftsman, etc.

So far, on my list I have a 260 pc mechanics tool set, a 12 drawer rolling tool chest, a 33gal air compressor with 1/2 impact wrench,3/8 ratchet wrench, air hammer and accessories. Once I learn to weld, I will probably add a welding unit to the mix. I am thinking with these items I should be pretty set for most anything.

So my question is what, in your opinion, is the base line tools to have to work on the RZR? I am not talking about a "dream list" but the baseline tools needed to do typical maintenance and installations, repairs.

Re: Lets talk tools

On the same note...is there a more heavy duty shock spring wrench then what comes with the RZR. I turned my springs all the way up while hunting last week. Had another guy and two dogs plus stuff in the RZR.

Wed. I was birding hunting alone and getting beat up with the ride and tried to turn the springs down a few notches...bent the damn wrench.

Drive one tire up a fallen log so the other one is off the ground--that helps a bunch. Take a 16" piece of 1/2" electrical conduit and flatten about 3" of one end in a vise until you can slide it over the shock wrench. That helps a bigger bunch

Re: Lets talk tools

Get 1/4dr. sockets, extensions and Torx bits and zip them in & out in a hurry with one of these little rechargeable impact drivers:

They're small but very powerful--perfect for getting into tight places all over the Rzr.

Re: Lets talk tools

I use mastercraft tools on mine lifetime warranty on sockets, wrenches and screw drivers. And good price too.

Re: Lets talk tools

They make a 3/8 drive for the Makita also ... I use the crap of it! Then most of your sockets will work on it!

Re: Lets talk tools

Put a vise grip on two coil wrungs as tight as you possibly can. That is taking a little pressure off the spring. Then use a big pair of channel locks. Works like a million dollars tightening or loosening. Then release channellocks.

Re: Lets talk tools

Two other tools I've found useful for working on the RZR are a set of Torx bits and the PELA 2000 oil extractor.

Re: Lets talk tools

As far as "speciality" tools go I've had to buy a whole load of basic tools just in the old fashioned imperial size...

Quite a significant cost after a while - and some I even had to import from your neck of the woods. Couldn't find any decent imperial-size hex bits to fit socket wrench anywhere over here. Was all metric. It's then rather annoying when you realise some fixings are metric anyway. Imported ATV tyre pressure gauge, couldn't find any with a low enough range here. And a volt meter... we have those, but you guys had a really cool one I could plug into the cigarette socket and had coloured lights to indicate state.

Re: Lets talk tools

Since we all are talking about tools, I'm curious to know what you all are carrying with you to keep you from a rock and a hard place? Last time,a Rhino showed up to keep me from a hard place. The pride of the Rhino was embarrassing
