Hi, there: I have a winch on my Polaris which I hae been happily using to operate a snow plow and pull down dead trees. Now, the cable appears to be stuck -- at about 8 feet, "out" becomes "in" -- I assume because it's stuck so hard that it reverses. I've tried a variety of things -- pulling manually in "free spool",trying to "rock" it (in and out) while pulling the cable, hoping it will unwind itself, but no luck.

Anybody have any suggests as to how I can get unstuck? Thanks to all.

i have had the same problem a few times. i did what fjk has stated and it works great. you might have to give it a good yank with the rzr. once it breaks free i leave the rzr tied to the tree and reel the cable in by pulling the rzr with the winch. it keeps the cable tight. also put rzr in neutral when doing this. good luck

One time on my Honda, the cable was so Pinched in, it would not unwind by pulling with the rubi, so I had to remove the winch from the atv and open it up to remove the spindle. Then was able to pry the cable out so it could be rewound once the winch was reinstalled.

If pulling it out with the rzr does not work you will have to cut it off the drum and then buy a new cable and even if you do get it to come free i would inspect it very close because a kinked cable is a weak cable.

Put it on freespool as mentioned, back up....keep backing until all 50' is off and then spring the $50 to get synth rope. The $50 for the rope is cheaper than any trip to the ER for the cable slicing your hand, snapping and cutting you, etc.
