Re: Installing the Viper Max 4500 winch "hope this helps"

Thanks for the tips Butch. I am finishing my install today. All I have to do now is run the red wire to under the dash for ignition on to activate the contactor. I also will be tightening all wiring connections and painting them with liquid electrical tape to keep out the water and using dielectric crease in the bullets then the LET on top of those. I also attached my yellow and blue wires to the stock wiring harness location back to the box under the drivers seat. Worked great. I also stole your idea to use a calk tube to keep the radiator hose from chafing.

Glad I could help you out! Remember now there is a hot female end to plug into under the dash for the switch!

Re: Installing the Viper Max 4500 winch "hope this helps"

Just finished installing mine. One thing I added for increased safety and peace of mind was an additional switch on the lead under the dash to prevent accidental activation. I have kids who love to push buttons and see what happens. :-/

There is a cross bar tube under the dash that the switch will mount up on perfectly. This is where I mounted my in/out switch. It can't be bumped there or the kids couldn't find it hidden under there! And no hole carved in the dash!

Oh man.

I was excited about getting this winch. Now I am dreading the install.

I hope I am not violating a forum policy... but the link that is provided in the install manual has some great pictures and info.

RockCrawler RZR install: MotoAlliance Viper EX4000 winch :: RockCrawler 4×4 and Offroad Magazine

I'm glad I ordered my HID kit so I can install those with the front cover off as well. I'm still not sure which way the mounting angle irons are positioned. I guess I'll figure it out :-)

Re: Installing the Viper Max 4500 winch "hope this helps"

I did the angles out for ease of installing the bolts. I think it's a personal preference as it shouldn't change the strength rate in any way.
Don't let the post get to you, it's quite easy to install if you read up on some of the helpfull hints. I think moto alliance may have used some of the pics from my original post for an easier instalation. They are good folks over there and will bend over backwards to help you out!

I've had ample testing time with the winch...other than a bit of corrosion with the 'out' portion of the switch (stupid Wisconsin salt...), I've changed nothing. I did opt to only run one shorter sleeve on the line however, having two created more hassles than it was worth.

I used it extensively during Rally on the Rocks...we took a small group to Area BFE and ran Upper Helldorado...I winched up the final 10' waterfall first and then turned around to winch up the 4 UTV's behind me...the EX4000 performed as expected, and I was still able to hold my hand on the motor when finished.

Glad the install photos are helpful

Re: Installing the Viper Max 4500 winch "hope this helps"

Is there a front / back difference between the ends of the brackets?

Looks like nobody likes the quality of the supplied zip ties. I'll get some 3M ties. Is there a preferred length?

I'm hoping this does not turn into an 8 hour job. I have to have the winch ready in a couple of weeks and my weekends are already covered up. I'll be able to put a couple of hours in each night max.

Thanks for the tips.

round bar, runs the complete width of the dash...steering column mounts to it...pretty hard to miss

Angles face out, and the flat end with the holes faces the front...

I've got a new 10-20 2.8mm lens for the D90, great for close up wide angle shots...will see about a pic or two tomorrow...

Install is ...mm....2 hours? Plan two nights if you screw around like i do on most projects...

LOVED the waterfall pictures.....one of our customer service reps came across them and forwarded them to me.....is it okay if we use them on our Facebook page?

Yes, the install is a bit more extensive for the RZR's, but it is by far our most popular kit. I'm going to send some of the info to our engineer to see if we can make it easier for future riders as well. Thanks for the great tips and have a good Memorial Day weekend.

You may I've got a GoPro POV video as well, but haven't had the time to edit it yet and see what did/didn't turn out...just back from 3+ straight weeks of wheelin trips and it'll take a bit to recover...lol

Re: Installing the Viper Max 4500 winch "hope this helps"

Hello, so I enjoyed about 5 hours of quality time with my new rzr and viper 4500.

The instructions are poor, thats established but man any winch would be a bear to install in there. Granted Im working with a gimpy thumb after a motorcycle accident but yikes tight in there. My last install was using a Montana Jacks receiver kit, with Warn winch, whole different level but you get what you pay for.

Question 1 - the viper rzr winch mount kit there are 3 longer bolts that fit the winch and 6 shorter. 3 that are 1.25" long and 6 are 1" ones. Since nothing is specified I used the 3 longer ones and I couldnt screw a longer one into the passenger rear winch mount hole so I used the 1" one. Is that ok, is that by design and what did you guys do? Is it really only 12lbs for the bolt and locknut into the winch. Seems strange everything else is grade 3 bolts and then 4 small ones into the winch.

Mounting the fairlead to that bracket is a lot of fun too. I had to take one roller nut off but its on.

Question 2 - I slipped the console back and just dropped the power leads in there, I suppose I need to drop the skid and worry about the axel? It was 2am last night and I just thought about it this morning.

Any commentary would be good.

Thanks

as covered in my writeup article, pulling the center floor pan from above is far easier than the skid plate...
