Rear axle seal

My rear axle seal on the passenger side started leaking like every other one out there so I pulled the axle out to see if it may have been a simple fix like dirt or seal replacement. The seal is pressed in prety good so Im not going to try to remove it until I get another one on hand to replace it incase I damage it.The seal looked fine with no tears but I noticed a circular spring shaped like a ring the same diameter as the seal that was just hanging around the seal.It looked like the spring went into the seal to keep pressure on the axle as it turns to get a tighter fit I guess.Does anyone know what Im talking about and if I am correct then how do you get that spring back into the seal. Plaease give me a fix I have a big ridding trip comeing up in two weeks.

Re: Rear axle seal

The spring does go in the seal, but if it's out, it won't stay in if you put it back....Get a new one...They are only like 5 bucks if I remember correctly......

Re: Rear axle seal

I replaced my seal. It was an easy job, took maybe 45 minutes the first time. I'm pretty confident I could do it faster now that I have done one. Be sure to replace with the orange color seal when you do replace them. The black ones tend to be the ones with the leaking issues. It is my understanding that Polaris changed the compound of the rubber seal with the orange ones.

Re: Rear axle seal

So obviously you pull the axle off and can you explain a little about how you got the old seal out and how you put the new one in? I assume it's a press fit. I'm not near my machine so I can't look. Any help you can provide would be way cool! Thanks!

They say you use a seal puller for the seal removal. I used a small claw hammer and it flipped right out. (Be sure you insert into the inner circle, the area where the axle would insert and not the area where the seal mates with the metal edge of the diff.) Popping the new one back in was easy to. I centered it up as best I could by hand and then tapped it lightly with a wooden mallet. Then re-install your axle.

Re: Rear axle seal

Ok I looked at my machine yesterday and I got a couple questions for ya. How the heck did you get a hammer into the seal to pull it out? The inner shaft and it's splines are right there. Didn't you booger up the shaft when you popped the seal out?

Re: Rear axle seal

My local dealer says he has sold over 100 rear seals for the RZR.
He actually asked me if I needed one yet.

Sounds like yet another problem.

The splined shaft is on the cv joint, and comes out with the axle.....Another way of removing is to drill a small hole in the part of the seal that has the metal ring in it, put a small sheetmetal screw in there, and it gives you something to grab on too with the hammer claws....

Re: Rear axle seal

Recently installed 3" extreme lift kit on 09 LE RZR. Left rear boot on axle started leaking took to dealership and replaced boot. dealership said problem was in the boot. After another ride same boot started leaking again. Again replaced boot because dealership said that was the problem. Once again the boot started to leak. Talked with dealership & replaced rear axles with gorillas. Went on trail ride (semi-rough) and ripped both boots on rear. Is this a differential problem and not an axle problem?

Re: Rear axle seal

Anyone have some good pictures or video of removing the rear seal. I have been trying for the last hour. I know it should be simple but I just can't get it out. Anyone have a part number or know where to find a seal puller
