How to not pay sales tax??

I'm looking at a Rzr S in Conn. that is all decked out from a dealer. He says I have to pay Conn sales tax even tho I live in NH. I've bought atv's from Mass many times and never paid sales tax. (NH doesn't have sales tax), but he said in Conn I have to. Is there any way around this? I hear many who buy out of state and don't pay, so why is Conn different.

I would look for one in a different state. Sounds like he is trying to get some more money from you.

Pay with cash. Don't involve a bank.

Re: How to not pay sales tax??

In Oregon we also do not pay sales tax, when buying something in Washington state
you would show your drivers license and an entry is made on a form with the info.
Apparently the dealer is an adiot or not wanting to bother with the reporting process.
Buy elsewhere and tell him so and why.

Re: How to not pay sales tax??

Every state has a tax exempt form for the dealer to fill out. Tax should be determined by the state and county the vehicle is going to be liscensed or titled in. Sounds like who you are talking to has never dealt with a similar situation before or just doesnt know better.

I bet I know who you are buying from I bought my LE there. I live in Mass tried to not pay as well but there is some law now in CT that you have too. Even another Ct dealer I have done business with told me the same thing. If it is Shark make a deal good duys to work with. Ask to see law that requires sales tax

It is from shark. It's good to know there good to deal with. But I did a little research and found a Conn form CERT-125 called Sales and Use Tax Exemption for a Motor Vehicle
Purchased by a Nonresident of Connecticut

I will call tomorrow and see if they heard of this form. It basicly a form saying I'm not a resident and don't plan to register in Conn. It takes the worry away from the dealer if I was lying and has a $5000 fine if I was a resident.

Re: How to not pay sales tax??

Some States have a Law where tax is paid in the city that it is delivered in. If I bought one in another County I'd have to pay the tax for the state and that county. No way around it here in Arkansas. Unless you own a Farm, or are buying it for resale.

Here are your choices:
A ) Talk to the CT revenue office and get an official opinion in writing. Also get an official opinion in writing from NH revenue office.

B) Steal it (Probably not the best choice)

Pay the tax so I wont feel bad about having to pay 15% sales tax on everything I buy where I live. LOL

It's just not fair... some people have all the luck!
