I couldn't find a topic on this but am wondering if it's normal. The belt on my 17 XP 1000 intermittently "chatters" for lack of a better word when I'm decelerating mostly down hills. Not the whine or squeal but more like it's slapping and maybe even hitting the cover? Happens just for a second then re-engages. It's annoying as all heck. Belt only has 300 miles and not abused.
Mine used to, but I changed the primary clutch setup and the secondary spring. It went away. Then you need to consider tire size and altitude you most often drive (over 5K' or under)
Yes, stock all the way around except for typical accessories. I did remove the cover to blow the dust out and wipe it out but didn't closely inspect the part that stays on the machine to see if there are marks on the cover.
In this picture I took looking up from the bottom of the primary it looks like there are some wear/clean spots up there.
I also did notice these odd looking indent/hols around 1/2 of the edge of the primary. They do not go all the way around. Normal? Why are they there? Seems odd that they don't go all the way around unless they are for some type of tool.
Looking back at the pic above you can see they don't go all the way around but there are smaller marks.
I haven't really attempted to do any full speed runs on it so I don't know. Seems to drive fine otherwise. How can I tell if the spider nut has backed off? Better pics help?
So, in looking at pics of other clutches those little holes appear to be normal.
The holes are how they balance the assembly. Thats why when/if you dis-assemble the primary, you must mark it and put it back the same way it was to begin with, think of how a tire and wheel on your vehicle is balanced. If the tire were to slip rotationaly on the wheel it would throw off the balance and need rebalancing. Otherwise it may be unbalanced.
Try using compressed air and blowing out the clutches, Todd any chance his secondary isnt closing and hes getting slack in the belt? That was my first guess. That does look like some pretty moderate grooving on the primary for a 2017 machine. Yikes
I've blown out the dust after every 3rd ride and I'm only about 8 rides into it. I don't see or feel any grooves in the primary. What are you seeing that I am not?
I'll have to check on top speed but the runs I have had up to about 55 mph seem to be completely normal. No excessive reving.
Thanks Todd. I see that spacing as well. I will give it a good run and let you know when I can. BTW, i just tried to ordered a belt from you but can't seem to get to your check out page. Says:
