Well that sux!!!!! never had it happen to anything I've owned.Usual cause seems to be a valve dropping into the cylinder or catastrophic failure of a piston.
Maybe others have more to offer.Any warranty on it????
Could have been caused by any number of things, such as:
1.) Material Failure
2.) Bad Bearing(s)
3.) Bad Rings and/or Poor Lubrication - (Would most likely score/ scratch the cylinder rather than bust the piston)
4.) Connecting Rod or Valves Broke First causing piston to break
5.) Blown Head/ Head Gasket Causing Coolant to Seep In
5.) Foreign Object or Hydrolock (Water or something that doesn't belong entered the chamber)
If the failure was catastrophic enough to destroy the engine case then you're out of luck. But as long the two engine cases are intact it can be rebuilt. Compare the list to rebuild yours to the price of a long block engine to get an idea.
