Re: Lets discuss rollovers!!

Blazing up a pretty steep hill and successfully spun the tail end around so I was facing downhill about half a dozen times in loose dirt. I went back to camp to swap passengers and forgot to shut 4WD off when I got back to the hill. As the tail end started to spin around we flipped over on the passenger side (the uphill side), bounced back up and slammed down on the drivers side. The frame rail punched through the right fender, and both sides are all scratched up. The cage stopped us from rolling down hill. We both had helmets and stock seat belts on, the shoulder bar and hip bar kept us in, but my passenger had an achy shoulder for a couple of days. Even though we talked about not reaching out if we rolled earlier that day (I tell everybody), we both instinctively reached out for the ground, but luckily didn't get hurt. I just got 5 point harnesses (gotta keep my kids in the seats) , and am going to order wrist restraints for the kids just in case, even though I don't ride like this when they're in it. Didn't realize till later the cage was bent over about and inch. All in all, I think the damage was minimal considering how hard we hit. Sorry, no pix, but mostly just scratches.

Does bending the cage compromise it for the next rollover? Should it be replaced or should I be good to go? I don't have any plans of rolling it in the near future, but I gotta say it was so unexpected and the adrenaline rush was so intense that it was exciting and f%#@ing awesome! I know, I sound like an idiot, but it happened and now I'm a little more aware of the RZR's limits and that I need to pay a little more attention to what I'm doing, so please don't lecture me, you guys are awesome and I respect your opinions, but I also learn from my mistakes.

yes it does and it compromises it even further if you straighten it any time you bend steel you weaken it, will it stand up to another roll probally ,should you replace it thats up to you i work with steel everyday and i see what happens with weakend steel so i replace mine everytime i bend it im on my 3rd cage now but i have a welder bender and shop so it doesnt cost me as much

Re: Lets discuss rollovers!!

well dont know where to start buddy and my boss traveling down gravel road and cought a rut and lost control and pushed the whole roll cage 20" to the passenger side resulting in the driver being killed due to exposure with road. Both wearing helmets and both still buckled in when rescued. Razor is apart and complete roll cage, both upper and lower control arms on right rear, front lower control arm and wheel hub, both brake rotors on right side, broken right rear axle snapped inside inner CV joint. All plastic OK other than drivers side rear red plastic fender and box. other than that still drove on trailer after to get home. Just finished the tear down today will start with pricing tomorrow. Does anyone know if there is a used roll cage around and other related components.

Thanks

DAMN...... Sorry to hear that. I just had to go to my friends funeral today from a motorcycle accident. He was just about to turn 22 this month. Shit happens so fast. And yes he was wearing a helmet but at 80mph straight into a tree not sure it really matters.

My Condolences to your friend speed was a factor in this one as well. Just remember "keep your stick on the Ice" things will always get better in the end.

Re: Lets discuss rollovers!!

My son's friend and his sister End-Doed my RZR last weekend at the sand dunes. They come over the top of steep dune to fast, the driver paniced, hit the breaks about the time the front weels hit the sand and BAM, right over on the roll cage and then right back upright on the tires. I dont know how he didn't do any damage to the front end. The stock roll bar crumpled in 4 spots and shifted back about 6 inches. They were lucky and only end up with a couple of knots on their heads from the damaged cage. The roll bar, side restraint bars, back bed, the right side bed plactic and tail light all have to be replaced $1200 (and possibly the back bumper $150).
The stock roll cage is piece of crap!! I can only imagine what it would look like if rolled over down at Moab. I am now in the process in tring to find a aftermarket cage that doesn't cost an arm and leg and waiting for the rest of the parts to come in from Polaris. Sucks being a nice Guy and have someone destroy your stuff!!!

Re: Lets discuss rollovers!!

There used to be some talk on here about "Donuts" you could purchase from a guy on eBay that were used so that your frame wouldn't punch through the front fender when you rolled it on its side. Has anyone seen or heard of these? I can't seem to find out where to purchase them.

Re: Lets discuss rollovers!!

wow Barrel rolled mine sunday 65mph hit brakes for a hard turn ahead and only the drive side front wheel locked up this sent it sides ways at full speed and airborne it went. I think 1 or 2 rolls never even touched the top of my roll bar. Baja lights where undamaged knocked a cover off of one of them landed on wheels and still running. broke tie rod and scratched one corner of roll cage. MB products roll cage held up great still has it shape not bent that I can tell. a brake line had gotton pinched off some how causing this.

Re: Lets discuss rollovers!!

Mine was only 1/2 hour old off the trailer from the dealer when my son rolled it in the back yard trying to cut a corner to sharp. The whole cage shifted slightly and passenger rear panel was dented in.

Re: Lets discuss rollovers!!

Had an drivers side rear axle break during a hard right turn and tipped over on the drivers side at less than 10mph. Minor scratches. You can buy RZR "cookies" on ebay (I think the guy selling them is a forum member) that fill the gap between the frame ends and the plastic body. They keep the frame from punching through the plastic. Around 20.00 shipped for qty. 4. I had them on and am certain it saved the plastic.

Re: Lets discuss rollovers!!

I would think it is more stable with it being wider and all...There is a vid of a guy tipping his over though that just posted today or yesterday.
