Ground Clearance
Noticing the RZR only has 10" that I assume starts evaporating when the seats are full. My Question is how much clearance do you think is reasonable for trail riding? How Much Clearance do you have and what did it take in $$ and sacrifice in order to get it up? I am still picking between the RZR and the Rhino, However I have noticed the RHino starts off with a slight advantage in this department.

Re: Ground Clearance
In stock form the ground clearance of the RZR is not good enough for any kind of rugged trails.
For mine I got some 26" tires on 14" rims, and also added a 2' lift kit. Now I am sitting at a sold 11' ground clearance fully loaded and I can handle whatever comes my way. |

Re: Ground Clearance
26" on 14 wheels is right @ 65inches
I suggest you trail ride both and you will be sold on the RZR . It will take one good hill climb! good luck |

Re: Ground Clearance
my friend has a rhino and i can say this is the only area he has me beet in..... i added affco shocks and now have almost 11 in of clearance but anotheir thing hurting the rzr that most people forget the wheel base on it is alot longer than the rhino so even if they both had the same clearnce the rzr would still bottom out first so a 2 in lift kit will help taller tires too and not alot more to do or youll over do the cv's on angle.... sort of like a long wheel base p/u vs short wheel base jeep sucks but i just gas it more....lol

Advertising 10 inches is a bit of a stretch on Polaris’s part. I just put on a 2 inch lift kit on mine and NOW I’m at 10 inches. I’m on stock tires and stock width. I have 1.5 inch wheel spacers coming in this week. I’m also planning on adding 1 inch spring spacers. |

Re: Ground Clearance
I have a 2" lift, 27" tires on 14" rims and bottom out only on the toughest terrain. I am thinking of adding 1" spring spacers someday, but I am very happy with the setup so far. I have measured my clearance at 12" but that is with nobody sitting in it.

Re: Ground Clearance
At one point, I had front sway bars off, 2" lift kit and 1" spring spacers up front, with Highlifter springs , and had about 14-15" clearance. I also blew out my front shocks and screwed my rack and pinion up first hard ride, and bad CV trouble shortly thereafter.
Took the spring spacers off, and now I'm around 13-14" unloaded. No shock or CV troubles since. It you can't get aftermarket shocks yet, the HL springs are really worth it.

Re: Ground Clearance
Problem with the RZR S is the 60" width great for dunes bad for trails.
Make you feel like your in an Artic Cat, I ride with one and more often than not on the tight trails he has to take the path less traveled (or create his own) |

Re: Ground Clearance
I just got back from Watson road here in Phoenix and went through some hard core rock trails way back in the mountains with my buddy who has a Rhino.
The Rhino clearly has the clearance but I easily outmaneuvered him through quite a few spots. Not to mention he almost rolled it going over a down facing ditch after a off camber spot and I cruised over it no problem. I was blowing up rocks like land mines at high speeds through tight trails (15-40mph), rocks the size of small watermelons or cantelopes. I totally destroyed the lame plastic body plate and put a few nasty dents in the frame. Overall though it handled much better through the crazy stuff than me or my buddy thought. If you have experience you can use the longer wheelbase and narrower width to your advantage, where the Rhino gets unstable due to leverage issues. If you don't care about thrashing your ride then its no question the RZR can outperform the Rhino even in moderate to serious rock crawling. And I mean thrashing as in mangling your plastic skid and denting your frame underneath...not thrashing your axles or drive train. I even hit a rock dead center at about 40mph that exploded on contact under the frame and blew my hood off. I will get some pictures and post them up. |
