Seat back angle

So, I am not a big fan of the angle of the seat back on the OEM seats. I would like it to be less reclined. I do not like feeling like I am reaching for the wheel (yes, I have tilted it down and still feel as though I am reaching). I have moved my seat as far forward as I can without hitting my knees.

First let me say, I do not want to buy new seats. Simply not an option.

I am curious if anyone else has had an issue with this and what their solution was.

Obviously, I could simply put a jacket or something behind me. But, I am looking for a solution that is semi-permanent. I was thinking that one could make something to hang over the seat that would add a wedge shape of padding... no padding at the butt and maybe 2" of padding at the back of the head. I do not know how I would go about implementing this, though.

Thoughts?

Re: Seat back angle

can you raise the rear mount? add washers below or a spacer? wouldn't take much, 1/2" raise in the rear would make a big difference.

I think if you made two shims the proper height and used longer machine screws you'd probably be OK.

Another option would be to modify the seat back. Perhaps bend it forward and weld (or bolt) a small gusset to the side of the tube at the bend for reinforcement ?

Re: Seat back angle

just loosen the 4 bolts on the bottom, and buy 2 longer ones and shim up the rear two as high as you want. I wanted mine taller for more leg room so i added a 1'' square tube under my mount and it works great.

Re: Seat back angle

I gave the shim idea a shot. I used composite shims from Home Depot. I had to trim them to fit in the channel of the seat base. I use three on each side, raising the rear up 3/4" (each shim was 1/4" tall). I do not know yet how far it actually leaned the seat forward. My guess is a couple of inches, but I do not have the other seat readily available to compare. Hopefully, this works out.
