i dont know what to do?
first off hello all, im new to the forum and i just ordered a RZR, should be here next week i hope.
anyways, my question is about the filter situation and warranty, i plan on getting the 2 year extended warranty and im not sure what to do about the filter problem? can i just get a stock prefilter and see what happens? i dont want to gut this thing and have them void my warranty for some reason. whats the best solution for my problem without being hassled.
i live in Colorado and it is very dusty in the mountains in the summer. i did run into a guy on the trail with a RZR and he had a little over 40 hours on it and he said he found just a tiny bit of dust past the filter, which is too much for me !
thanks in advance !

Re: i dont know what to do?
just keep it stock and dont touch it. change the fluids with popo fluids and clean the airfilter exactly like the service manual tells you to. then after your first ride document the amount of dirt in the intake and shove the pics up popo nose. and demand something be done about it.

Re: i dont know what to do?
I would suggest being very pro active with your maintenance. The clamp that connects to the throttle body has been known to come loose- wouldn't hurt to check on a regular basis.
wouldn't hurt to have a spare air filter or ten.
Keep them pre-oiled in a zip lock freezer bag and stuff them into your cargo wih tools.
Assuming that you aren't replacing the whole airbox of course.

Re: i dont know what to do?
I've got 41 hrs. on mine & dirt gets past the filter too. I also have the x-tended warranty and told the dealer I bought from to find a solution or warranty will be giving me a new motor. Dealer got me a Uni filter but it wouldn't fit the mounting or housing. Guess I'll have to go with after-market product and hope it doesn't affect the warranty. I bought mine in Mar. of this year, been fun so far. Good luck. I also hear the oiled filter plays havok on the sensors and throtle body too. Don't know much about it .....C-Ya

Re: i dont know what to do?
I love my Amsoil filter setup, no problems at all even in extremely dusty conditions. The filter, prefilter and adapter cost about $60 and solved my problem.

Re: i dont know what to do?
Mod the intake and seal it up better. My dealer assured me that the additional filtration I added would not void my extended warranty. Keep in mine that the Ranger 700 has a two-stage filtration system that draws air from the front and then sends it to a canister just like the RZR. Read my post:
http://www.rzrforums.net/engine-driv...iltration.html
Ask your dealer about whatever mod you choose. BTW, it better to mod/improve the intake system and not have a problem than have a problem and risk them not approving the repair. Your dealer has a lot to do with approved repairs so talk to the service manager.

Re: i dont know what to do?
I have 80 miles on my new Rzr and have no dust at all past the filter YET, but I am considering doing the Amsoil filter upgrade, Part numbers would be great if someone has them, tips- make sure filter clamp is tight and airbox o-ring is clean when re-installing the lid, and check the filter often, clean the prefilter also.

Re: i dont know what to do?
Hmmmm, reading about this air intake issue makes me question spending $10 grand on something that has problems like this.

Keep it stock! I have a gen 2 and have had no problems with the air intake.

Re: i dont know what to do?
I'm in the same situation, have one on order... worried about air intake problems.
I have discussed the air intake situation with not only Polaris GB and the dealer which is actually supplying the vehicle. None of them left me feeling totally convinced I wouldn't have problems!
I've decided to modify the intake... this is purely from a satisfaction point of view. Why? Well, I just think I'm going to be more pissed off if the engine fails and I don't have my RZR for ages whilst they cobble together a half arsed rebuild (which doesn't cost me a penny)... than if I mod it and they refuse a warranty claim (which would cost me money).
Others may argue it the other way, it's up to you really. I have bought a KMS mod as well as the square filter for the Grumpy Mod. Though part of me still wants to leave it stock and hope I've got a good 'un. Perhaps the best thing is to drive a little in dusty conditions and check your intake tube.
I should point out, this whole issue almost made me not bother buying one at all.

I'll 2nd that
I'm use to the jap stuff where you simply add gas and change the oil every so often. I had an 88 Yamaha warrior for 14 years and the only wrenching ever done was to tighten the chain and replace the battery twice. I then went to a 2000 Wolverine (same as the warrior but a 4x4) and just sold it and that only had the wrench for a Battery a couple years back. See my apprehention guys.............
