Question rzr 4x4 same type as kawasaki 4x4??

Hey guys,
one more question for you. i own a kawasaki prarie 650 v-twin 2002 w/ 28 in dirt devil tires all the way around. i am thinking of purchasing a polaris rzr w/ the aftermarket 26 in. rims and tires. i know that the praries are around 300 pounds lighter than the rzr. being that the praries are that much lighter, how is the rzr going to compare going through mud, quick sand, etc.?? in other words, when i get my prarie stuck in two wheel drive with it buried to the rear axle i can engage all tires w/ the small yellow lever on the left steering wheel handle and put it in "true differential lock mode" and the machine will rise out of the mud like magic. do you think that the rzr would do this too since it has its four wheel drive system that is uses or not? thanks for your suggestions or comments in advance.-

matt

I would suggest getting Bighorns or Mud lites over the Polaris after market tires. I really like my 14"x26" Bighorns. I've heard complaints about all Polaris tires in mud. Swamplite tires look pretty nasty for mud too.

I agree with BigSilly on the tire tread choice alone; yet you seem to be more worried about having your diff. locked or not. Here's a shot of the Rzr before many significant mods could be fabricated for it earlier this year:
(From the highlifter.com forum):
Highlifter Forums

The Rzr is not necessarily a 'mud machine', IMO...yet I'm not all that fond of sitting around to wait for somebody in my group to get stuck in some mudhole, to begin with. It's like full-size wheeling to me: some guys like to go 5 mph all day in a 1/2 mile long caravan eating each other's exhaust and stopping for hours on end at each obstacle....and some like to see as much scenery as possible with only 'bad luck' (vs "watch how stuck I can get") breakdowns along the way.

If you have your heart set on mudding side-by-sides...I'd spend money on a lift kit and big tires...while saving money for what you obviously realize will be an expensive date as the relationship with your machine progresses.(also, and don't take this the wrong way...but if a 2wd Prairie is is dead stopped in a mud hole and the diff.lock 'like majic' walks it out?...you weren't that stuck in the first place or may not have been with Polaris' 4WD system engaged to begin with).

Re: rzr 4x4 same type as kawasaki 4x4??

blackballed-

in reguards to being stuck on my prarie in two wheel drive; i was referring to "quick sand" in my creek. i can bury my rear wheels while powerbreaking and then lock the front two wheels and it rises out "like magic" why would i do that? just to see its limits because there are times when i'm driving and hit quick sand even in four wheel drive and it sinks like a rock and without the diff. lock there would be no way possible that a limited slip diff. lock would even come close to that and make it out where i go. so i was wondering how the rzr would compare with its four wheel drive system. just thought i needed to clarify that. thanks for you comments.

Imo, the amount of time it takes for 4WD (locked or not) to engage in that type of situation is so unnoticeable and the results so similiar; that I doubt you'll ever discern the difference in regards to the outcome desired. Yeah, having a locked differential is 'nice' for even just peace of mind in some situations...yet frankly, I have owned both systems in a side-by-side and believe that the Polaris version has served me just fine in every condition that I've thrown at it.

If the locker is indeed (possibly) a dealbreaker for you..throw in the ground clearance comparison between other side-by-sides and make an argument of it. I would simply offer that I've had the locker-equipped Rhino since day one...and wouldn't trade the Rzr with its well documented 'inferior' system for anything on the market today.

Good luck with your choice,

John

The Rzr pull awsome and great bottom end power id put some big horns or mud lites or swamp lites on and you should have no problem as long as you have a good self cleaning tread tire the rzr will spin it
