Hunting with a RZR

I am new to the forum and am looking for advice from those that have hunted with a RZR. I have always hunted off a quad and am getting a RZR or Ranger this fall. I want SXS for hunting. I have been caught in a few late summer/early fall storms that have ended my quad days for good. It’s time for a roof and windshield. I want a trail capable SXS that does not kick my butt before I start my hiking. I love the looks of a RZR and want a RZR over the Ranger but I am not decided. I use the quad to go from point A to point B FAST then hike. What are the thoughts of RZR owners? I am a little concerned about ground clearance but have researched lift kits. I am also looking at getting a little wider offset tire for stability. Is that needed?

Re: Hunting with a RZR

Do you have a 50 inch limit on the trails up there?

Re: Hunting with a RZR

Well the S model has a roll cage going above the bed ( no game on the bed) The rzr bed is supposed to be able to hold 300 lbs...I don't know what a field dressed elk weighs, but I know it's more than 300 lbs, but as said earlier, let the members who hunt with rzr's find your post.....

Re: Hunting with a RZR

I use my RZR for a lot of Rhino hunting, but I also use it for Deer & Elk hunting, both rifle & archery. It is so much more comfortable than hunting off of a quad, you won't regret it!
I have never had any ground clearance issues as of yet.

My RZR out archery elk hunting.....

My hunting buddy....yea right!, I wish!!!.....

Re: Hunting with a RZR

A deer is no problem, an elk will be multiple trips I would guess. I haven't killed an elk since buying this rig.....maybe it is cursed?.....

Re: Hunting with a RZR

The 300 pound rear box is more than the quad I used. It would be multiple trips but they could be fast trips

Re: Hunting with a RZR

John,
I just added 1" wheel spacers all the way around on mine but haven't had it out to test yet, but I am sure it would add a little stability.

Re: Hunting with a RZR

Do alot of hunting from my rzr here in alaska. It cannot be beat when it comes to avoiding bad weather. I have a full windshield and top. As for hauling out game there are a couple of options that I found work great. Yes the bed is only rated to 300lbs but with a 2" lift and shocks on the tightest setting I have had over 400lbs of gear and meat(needless to say I looked like Jed Clampett coming out of the woods) in the back. The other option is to remove the passenger seat (for the record I do have friends). I have had a cabelas full guide series wall tent plus the stove, cots, and a cooler in that area. I try to balance the load as much as possible and drive fairly conservativly.

Just my two cents.

The back of the rzr makes a pretty good filet table for salmon and rabbit cleaning station too.
