Intake issue questions and fixes?

Just curious as to how many people have had intake leaking problems, and what kind of conditions they are riding in?
I have friends with RZR's as well as my own, and none of us has had leaking all are Gen2 or 3's, but we don't have silty dust in our area. Should we be snorkleing? Do snorklles fix the intake problems?
Just curious as to how wide spread this is, kind of like the "spacer" removal issues that were so big, but when asked, no one person stepped forward to say they blew a belt due to the spacer be removed.......hoping its a similar case with intake, and just isolated incidences.

Re: Intake issue questions and fixes?

So am I assuming that the intake issues are an isolated few in extreme conditions...........with no one replying?

Re: Intake issue questions and fixes?

The first thing I would do is make sure the filter is clamped on tight instead of the "slip it on and hope" method used by Polaris. That stopped dust in my intake. You probably arent getting many replies because there a dozens of topics of different mods folks have done to their machines. Guess a search would find most of them.

Gen 3, stock clamps tight, still sucked dust. Just installed UMP. We'll see how it goes.

Re: Intake issue questions and fixes?

Same here,Gen 3 and clamps are tight, with the polaris foam filter and dust still getting by. I live in western colorado and it can be very dusty here. Last ride was in moab just a 100 miles away and rode about 60 miles. After we rode 1st trail whitch was about 30 miles I changed the foam outer filter with the spare one That I carey with me, whitch is foam also. Both were full of dirt and dust and so was the paper filter. I have a 2002 sporstman 500 that did the same ride and there was a small amount of dust on foam but none on the paper, so it is a wide spread problem that Polaris needs to step up to the plate and FIX IT.

Re: Intake issue questions and fixes?

if you have dirt in you airbox and down in your throttle body, and if you seem to burn oil at all you need to get in on the class action lawsuite if you expect anthing to come of this problem. This will will cause thousands of dollars of damage to you machine. Dealerships are declining you proper repair. call 415-455-1326 ext 223 ask to speak with Harry. this is a big lawfirm trying to put together a big claim. you need only give them basic info. there is no cost to you. if you snooze you loose people! Polaris needs to step up!

Re: Intake issue questions and fixes?

I have a hard time telling if folks are complaining about dirt in the AIR BOX or dirt getting PAST the filter and into the intake leading to the engine. I see lots of post of people talking about dirty air boxes and filters but that is not the problem, it is dirt getting PAST the filter that is.

Re: Intake issue questions and fixes?

Mine is a Gen1, I bought it back in August. I had already read of the intake issue back then. Needless to say, I didn't do more than 1 ride to see that there was an issue with dust getting into the throttle body. I quickly devised a two stage system to allow the intake end to filter the air before it even got to the airbox. This system along with going over the entire intake system sealing everything along the way, has cured this issue for me. Now, even regular maintenance on the airbox filter is minimal, as the intake end catches most all. Many have followed this design with success.

I ride in varied conditions, from dusty mountain region, silty deserts, ocean, dunes.

Here's a link to it....

Re: Intake issue questions and fixes?

I just returned from 2 days at Turkey Bay. The dust was really thick. My airbox and filter where dirty but the intake throat was clean. I cleaned the pre filter, blew the filter out with air until the dust stopped coming out, greased the filter and the cap and I'm going back in July. I have a GEN 2 with no problems yet. Knock on Wood!!!!!

Re: Intake issue questions and fixes?

Mine is a Gen 1 and it was pulling in the fine dust. Since POPO didnt seem to want to do anything about it I opted to replace the intake with the UMP before blowing up a motor and then having to wait for POPO to hopefully approve a new one. Almost 800 miles on the first filter with the UMP and it still looks new... Tells you something about the difference in the two... Stock vs. UMP..
