Re: Intake issue questions and fixes?
A guy from Polaris GB called me, by mistake - I had already spoke to another guy. Anyway, whilst I had him on the phone I decided to ask him about warranty, then I just came straight out and asked him about the air filter issue.
He said there was an issue with early ones and the dealers recalled them and they were fixed. Then a recent batch had a problem too. This might explain why there seems no consitency between newer and earlier RZRs having the problem.
Oh and BTW - I told him I had just ordered a RZR, and asked him surely the ones leaving the factory now wouldn't have the problem. He said some might! Then added it was the responsibility of the dealer to check the serial before they sent it out and carry out any remedial work on the vehicle before releasing it to the customer.
Kind of interesting I thought. But either way I'm still going to go down the KMS route, I don't give a shit about the extra hp, the stock system just sounds inadequate and fragile.

Thanks! wish I could take credit for the idea, but I saw a variation on it in a post here months ago.

Re: Intake issue questions and fixes?
Bought the uni filter, and the spray oil and was wondering do I saturate with spray or just spray inside & out sparingly or what? And to seal every thing up what do I do? thanks in advance.

So....what new serial numbers are problematic???
I'm getting a new one hopefully within the week. There's so many posts regarding the intake issues....I need to decide exactly what I should do to my new bike. Certainly don't want to drop $10k and have the motor blow up.

Re: Intake issue questions and fixes?
Have no idea gdog, he said its the dealers responsibility to look up the serial and see if it needs sorting. Seems crazy to me, though that might be just a situation at Polaris GB where it might be just a warehouse for holding the imported products without any grease monkeys on hand, IYSWIM.

Re: Intake issue questions and fixes?
one thing i will add here about problems with stuff and im not saying this isnt a problem but i have experienced a similar problem with a Yamaha dirtbike i bought a bunch of years ago. it was a WR450 and it was the first year it came out, i was on a waiting list to get one and i was like 25th or something. there was a problem that developed on the bike, and it was some keyway that would come loose and shear off. it was ALL over the web, it seemed like the bike would fail instantly within 100 miles, it scared everyone from buying them, i went from 25th to 3 on the list in a week. i took delivery of mine (serial # below 1000) anyway since my dealer assured me they it wouldnt be a problem and they were right ! i NEVER had a problem with the bike, it was super reliable. it just makes me laugh to this day about the internet and how things get blown out of proportion sometimes, when there is a problem with something you will surely hear about it 10 fold, but if everything is ok you dont hear about that much at all. i would love to see how many units have been sold vs how many have had this problem.
and again im not saying this is not a problem but just some food for though.

Polaris paid the bill, the cost $2,071. My Rzr was over the six months Polaris warranty but they stepped up to the plate and paid. Way to go Polaris.

Footnote: Even through my Rzr was over factory warranty, Polaris stepped up to the plate and paid for a new top end. The cost was $2,071. Polaris did the right thing and took care of business. I give Polaris a thumps-up.

Re: Intake issue questions and fixes?
You have to remember the cost to them isn't anywhere near $2071, but it's fantastic if they sorted it beyond the warrantry period - perhaps it was a clerical error.

No clerical error. My Rzr was bought in August of 07 and the top end went out in April of 08. Maybe I am just a lucking dog but Polaris paid the bill and for that I am grateful.

Re: Intake issue questions and fixes?
Mine is a generation one and I am having problems not only with dust passing but also excessive oil consumption! I am having the dealer recall done soon and they said they will do whatever it takes to fix the oil problem. I mean 3 quarts in less than 20 hours of ridding is excessive right?
