Question air filter maintenance

Just ordered a Uni air filter for my Rzr. Does anyone know the difference between the uni filter kit and the k&n?? I have a k&n kit and wonder if it would be usable on the uni.

Re: air filter maintenance

The Uni Is double foam, oilable unit..I feel it is better for protection than the K&N but they still suck dirt because of the negative pressure or Vaccume the engine puts on the canister/ silencer.Polaris must address this issue...I will post a You tube video of a Uni filter that sucked dirt as soon as it uploads..Meanwhile you can watch this..

Let us know what Polaris says about that video. I would be interested in hearing what they think of that.

Re: air filter maintenance

Yes here is a Video of a Uni that sucked dirt as well..After three differant filters, this machine has lost 25 lbs of compression per cyclinder in 18 hrs...And we check filters every time we ride..The air box does not have enough volume of incoming air that the engine requires under hard acceleration causing a vacuum effect in the airbox. No filter can stop negative pressurized dust . It is a little long so bare with it..

Re: air filter maintenance

great vid! You would have the same results with many filters that i have tried! The best results are with the AFE pro guard 7 I have 50 miles no dust! But due to the poor air box design i am waiting for my dragonfire snorkled cyclone canister!! I will keep you posted!

Re: air filter maintenance

Yes at this point we have a fix for this flaw..But the damage to the engine is done.I can feel a power loss and down 25lbs of compression per cyclinder is unacceptable...I want a new topend out of this ...

Re: air filter maintenance

What should the compression be for new?
I haven't done any mods to my air filter yet. What do you reccomend for keeping the dirt out as of now?
I want a cleanable re-usable filter, do you have some part numbers for me? Thanks in advance.

Re: air filter maintenance

Guess i need to get the ol comp. tester out! After 150 mi. and a lot of dust i'm afraid of what I will find!! Does not seem to be low on power but the idle is totally erratic!! Beds coming off tonight to prepare for the dragonfire, so I will check comp. then get the PLEDGE out for some dusting of the throttle body!!

Re: air filter maintenance

Polaris service manual states compression range from 150lbs to 200lbs per cylinder. Leave other plug in, and of course both plug boots away from any metal. Hold throttle completly open. Spin over engine till a max reading is achieved...Usually about 8 to 10 seconds.Ive done this with the engine warm and cold. The reading was the same.
Your idle is all over the place because the sensor in the air tube from canister to carb is covered in dusty material . If you remove filter and spray WD-40 on this sensor, plus clean the entire intake track out .Your idle will go back to 1180 to 1220.
My experiance anyway..

Do you have a link to a source for this filter. Or a model number? I've looked around and only find them for cars.

Re: air filter maintenance

whoa do i really need a better air filter??

will my new rzr lose lots of compression as stated? there hasnt ever been anyone complaining about loss of horsepower or compression on the rzr. Is the dust getting in there quite common and serious? and is this good if i have to get one? RANGER RZR TRUE FLOW AIR FILTER from Polaris Ranger & Ranger RZR Access. & Apparel
