Speaking of helmets (New York State laws)
Does anyone know if NYS law requires a helmet in one of these?
I have a helmet and will be wearing it if running "at speed" but I'm wondering what the law actually is about them when just putzing along back woods ATV trails at less than 15 or 20mph.
I've sent a note to the NYS DMV asking but thought some one here may already know. If not, I'll post their reply if/when I get it.

Re: Speaking of helmets (New York State laws)
NYS considers the RZR an ATV and requires ATV riders wear a helmt.
Personal opinion, it doesn't matter how slow your going...roll off and embankment, or a bridge, or get hit by another machine that is running at speed etc...

Re: Speaking of helmets (New York State laws)
I understand the safety aspects but alot of the trails I'll be on are flat through the woods and will be run very slow. Just wanted to know the law - thanks.
The salesman was pretty shocked I think when I asked him if they could put a super quiet exhaust on it. He said, "I don't know. No one has ever asked that before. Everyone wants it louder"
Not me. I didn't get it for the speed, I got it for the agility, width and right wooded trails it will fit on.
Thanks for the answer.

Re: Speaking of helmets (New York State laws)
See if you can source a Givi helmet or similar, they make Jet style with large vents which I've found before are great and keep your head nice and cool (if you need it). They're also very light and you quickly forget you've got it on.

That's a nice helmet. Is it for Biking. Where would you find one?

Re: Speaking of helmets (New York State laws)
Thanks Alex but a quick search would seem to indicate that they aren't legal here in the States.

Re: Speaking of helmets (New York State laws)
IMO- if you are sitting in your RZR and its moving, helmets on.
same goes for quads, dirtbikes, etc. I would hate to think my last words would be, " i'm not going fast enough to wear a ..."

Re: Speaking of helmets (New York State laws)
OH, sorry about that, either:
a) the fact they're not legal in the US means they're rubbish
b) they didn't spend the money on US testing.
I'm guessing the second is more likely, as Givi are a European make. The helmet itself is designed for motorbikes, scooters, quads, etc, so even though it looks like a fancy push-bike helmet it's road legal in Europe (where we take our heads seriously).
Anyway what that means is that it's probably no good for NY if you're stopped by an over-zealous cop, but no doubt great, if you're looking for a helmet for trail use.
I know it's available online, although whether people like buying lids on the net? I'm never that keen as I have a huge head.

Re: Speaking of helmets (New York State laws)
Here is one with similar styling that is DOT approved.
