Glacier 2 Snow Plow is JUNK!!!

Hey everyone,

2 months ago I purchased this system and we got over 2 feet of snow in the past 2 days. The part of the plow that clips to the frame is bent and now it wont even stay on the plow mount. Has anyone else had problems with this system and does anyone know of a better plow system? I tried to take some decent pics but I had to crop them down a lot.

Re: Glacier 2 Snow Plow is JUNK!!!

I wondered how that mount would hold up. It has a good lift angle, but it just doesn't seem as beefy as the ones with the push tubes that run underneath.

Re: Glacier 2 Snow Plow is JUNK!!!

Hmm... I have a Glacier II, and I have not seen this type of fatigue. I use my pretty heavily, even pushing gravel and rock around during the summer. I have a feeling the problem could be a warranty issue, take it back to the dealer and ask them.

I suspect maybe the flop over springs may be too tight or you hit something very very hard, maybe on the corner of the plow blade?

I had trouble with my on machine mount looking "tweaked" but what I found was the mount had come loose, and slid back.

Re: Glacier 2 Snow Plow is JUNK!!!

Welcome to the forum!
IMO The Glacier plow is a nice unit and the quick mount/dismount is a good feature. Nobody likes to crawl on the ground to hookup a tube-mount plow and I've read some complaints that the frame mounts that remain can hang up the machine on rocks so nothing's perfect. The Glacier is weak but so is a Rzr. You just can't hammer it into a pile of snow without something giving. Hopefully you didn't bend your frame, too.

Re: Glacier 2 Snow Plow is JUNK!!!

I looked at that plow, and decided it wasn't up for a rough winter. If you look at the hefty steel and reinforcements on a Wheel Horse or John Deere garden tractor plow, you'll see that they have learned the lessons of Severe Duty! Snow plows rank #2 in abusive use. First is "ground breaking implements" such as turning plows etc. Take 1000 pounds of RZR, add 40 HP and 15 mph. Mix together for 30 minutes. Result? One he!! of a tweaked mess of steel.

Re: Glacier 2 Snow Plow is JUNK!!!

You're absolutely right. A JD plow mount is 1/4" boilerplate and attaches to 1/4" boilerplate. The blade is at least twice as thick as the Glacier. The arms on mine were 3/8" thick. The Glacier is thinwall square tube. There's no comparison at all--my BBQ grill has a stronger frame

BUT the Rzr does a much better job for me and I'm not too concerned about damaging it on familiar territory. After I got the Glacier & tried it out I sold my JD & hydraulic plow. No regrets in my 2nd year of plowing with the Rzr/Glacier.
There's no way I would use a Rzr to plow commercially on strange streets & drives. I know there are several here that do & maybe it pays good enough to repair any damage...?

Re: Glacier 2 Snow Plow is JUNK!!!

I have used my Glacier 2 all winter and have also tweeked my tubular arms. I also wore out several wear cups or whatever u call them. Take the wear cups and throw them away and buy a 3 inch by 60 inch by 3-8th thick blade to replace the factory one. Use the old blade for template to drill your new blade. ( mine came from scrap pile). Also my bolts continue to loosen on the frame connection to the RZR. Next year I will use good lock nuts. I also will weld a plate to the bottom of the tubular arms to strengthen and keep them from wearing out dragging on the ground.

I haven't had a problem with mine and I am not gentle with it. I live out in the sticks and we get plenty of snow.

Re: Glacier 2 Snow Plow is JUNK!!!

I have been very careful with mine. It doesn't take much to bend that tab that changes angle or the whole tubular attachment. Be careful.

Just bend my Tab that changes the angle... Any idea if that item is available for replacement from the dealer or if it's a warranty item? First time I used the plow!!

Re: Glacier 2 Snow Plow is JUNK!!!

Our local dealer won't sell them anymore. One of the few factory parts the dealer refuses to stock or special order. -Polaris doesn't make the blue plastic plow blade they released earlier this year. It's been removed from the Polaris accessory site. Wonder why...
