Manual line lock as a parking brake
Has anyone looked into this or used a manual line lock like the one Jamar makes? I think installiation would be a bit more detailed but there would not be a draw on the battery. I'm looking for something I can leave enguaged while trailering or maybe over night. Anyone have any experiance or opinions?
Thanks Hayden |

Re: Manual line lock as a parking brake
I'll give you the opinion of someone who's done it both ways. I put a manual one on mine and it does work as expected but it's a big PITA to install. Of course some of that was my own fault for wanting to install it under the console with only the knob coming through. If you don't buy someones kit you have to hunt down the high pressure hose & fittings--or cut, bend & flare hardline to fit.
Then you have to bleed the brakes. In the end you have a manual pressure lock that will hold pressure indefinitely as long as you dont have any leaks in the lines or calipers. A later post showed how to use a clutch or brake cable to hold the pedal down to keep the brakes applied on all 4 wheels. Way easier to install & cheaper. I now have both...LOL The pedal lock will hold pressure on the entire system for hours but mine will not hold overnight. I guess the piston in the master cylinder will bleed off a little pressure over time. The manual lock seems to hold forever--but how long do you really need it anyways?

Re: Manual line lock as a parking brake
I have insthauled my own line lock type parking brake. Yes it will put a draw on the battery. I did put a larger battery in for my stereo. But I love the way it works. I will say some of the manual line locks that I have seen on this site look nice. Not so much the ones that pull on the brake peddle. If you use any type of Hydraulic type of set up I think you will be happy. My ony quetion is why do you need it over night? Do you park on a hill over night?

Re: Manual line lock as a parking brake
I do occasionally. Seems to make mine run better.
