Is the Air Filter problem now fixed

I was just into the Polaris dealer and asked about the air filter on the 2009 Razor and was told that Polaris is on their third filter design and the the new one is the larger diameter filter that is 6 to 7 inches in diameter and has no foam cover. Mine is a 4/09 manufacture that has the three clip cover and this larger filter. Evidently the older ones were a smaller diameter. SO are the newer filter working out ok?

Re: Is the Air Filter problem now fixed

the filter is not the problem. it is where the air box attaches to the throttle body. this detaches and allows unfiltered air and other debris into the throttle body

Re: Is the Air Filter problem now fixed

Just and update on the filter. I only have 136 miles on my 2009 razor and about half is on dusty roads/trails.

I opened the filter can cover and same amount of dust on the inside of the can, outside of the filter, which I would expect. I pulled the filter and the inside of the filter was clean and the tube/hose going to the carb was very clean. So far it looks good.

x2... I have 185 miles on mine, no dirt inside the filter. Not even a speck. The link to the TB is much tighter and there is a foam seal on the bottom of the MUCH larger canister type filter.

I even took it out in an plowed field (lots of very fine dust) and rode the hell outta it... .then checked.. dirt in the canister, but nothing past the filter.

--just my two cents... and your actual mileage may vary....

Re: Is the Air Filter problem now fixed

I was doing okay with the new filter and grumpy air mod, but for piece of mind I changed to the UMP filter, i like the fact that the UMP canister does not fill up with dirt or sand. I feel piece of mind with the UMP and it definately breaths better than the stock filter.

Re: Is the Air Filter problem now fixed

UMP Filter made by Unique Metal products, aluminum canister with a donaldson cyclone type filter inside. Search UMP on the forum for more details, these are one of the best filters you can put on your machine to stop dust intrusion.

The best filter I found for the stock canister was the AFE dry synthetic filter Item# 81-10034.
Search Results for 81-10034 - aFe Power

It's the one at top right in the photo. This is a much better made filter than the Uni, TrueFlow or either of the Polaris paper filters. Way easy to clean--just tap it gets most of the crud out, wash in plain water to get the rest.

I had to drill a hole in the canister to pass a socket & extension through to tighten the clamp. The filter is too fat to reach around.
(Like some of the post whores here)
