A new BMW M5 puts out 500hp. An STI may beat an M5 off the line, but if the vehicles are doing 25mph or better, a stock STI is dead meat. If you "put four cars on him in about 6 blocks'' the M5 driver was not seriously racing you.

I have a MB E55 and I have raced several STIs starting at about 20-25 mph and above and it is not even a contest once I hook up. Off the line, the STI AWD will hook up, but if I keep my head and judiciously apply the throttle, it does not take me that long to catch up and once I do, well it is no longer a race.

I live in the Seattle area and I would be happy to go to a track and put my money on the line to prove my point. You put up enough money to make it worth my time and I will show you what "100k+ on a car" can do.

Bottom line, I own a 60k+ mustang which proves that you can throw money at anything and make it fast (also I an a F-ing moron for throwing money down the drain). My point is that you M5 owners automaically think that you hold the trump card
I have seen what your 100k car can do, thanks for playing
I love my M5 ......Trump card or not
you can keep your mustang, it will never be a BMW M5

Thanks, I will keep it!
My Mustang will never be an M5? I thought if I prayed really hard and put pixie dust under it at night it would magically change in to a BMW
If I wanted an M5 I would have bought one My ONLY point was that it is funny to see some of the reactions

No.... John you've got it all wrong.

He only wants to race cars that he knows are SLOWER... your car would kill his E55, and that would just be no fun for him.

All joking aside... I almost bought an '06 E55 instead of my STI....

I said to myself, "Used car with 45K miles for $45K... or a brand new car that I can make just as much fun (or more) to drive for $34K... and obviously chose the STI. That being said, I would still LOVE to have an E55 for a daily driver! I just don't want anything to do with the maintenance once the warranty is up.

I hear you, I have had a couple BMW's and they are great cars. My 330 had free maintenace for the first three years. I sold it right before it ran out.

My wife has an '07 BMW X3... awesome vehicle! Tows like I couldn't believe...

However, like you, we're going to buy something else as soon as the warranty is coming close to ending.

"What are your track times"
[End QUOTE]

I checked the July 2009 issue of Road & Track Road Test Summary (page 114-115). A WRX STI goes from 0 -- 60 in 5.0 seconds and a quarter-mile in 13.6 seconds at 98.2 mph (R. & T. 3-08).

A BMW M3 goes from 0 -- 60 in 4.6 seconds and a quarter-mile in 13.0 seconds at 110.4 mph. (R. & T. 6-08).

The Road & Track did not list the times for a BMW M5 or a MB E55 AMG, but if senility has not set in and memory serves me correctly, according to the road tests in the relevant automotive magazines, a BMW M5 does the quarter-mile in approximately 12.5 seconds and a Mercedes-Benz E55 AMG does a quarter-mile in approximately 12.1 – 12.3 seconds.

Looks like BigMikes RZR will take A stock STI .Theres goes that idea of towing A RZR behind the STI to make it go fast.
