RZR Factory Roll Cage Mods??

Was at a Harley Bike show over the weekend ran across old friend that builds Race Car, Frame braces, Roll Cages etc.. He want to take my existing cage and add additional braces?

From those of you that have bent your factory RZR Roll Bar? What do you think?

Start from scratch?

Modify Factory Cage?

Start from scratch. The factory tubing is pretty thin and bends easily.

Re: RZR Factory Roll Cage Mods??

One of the guys from Cartwheelin beefed up the exsisting cage and had good results. As I recall, he had a couple decent rolls with it during a race and it held up well. PRC Forum - Cartwheelin' Magazine Race RzR Buildup...

One of the magazines that was evaluating the RZR came right out and said the roll cage on the RZR is ugly. Any opinions on that? Will we need to build a new one because it's so ugly? i haven't got mine yet, so I really haven't been able to evaluate it in person.

Stock Roll Cage Sucks, But It's Not Even By Defenition A Roll Cage. So My Advise Is Replace It As Soon As Possible. When It's Completely Off The Machine You Really Get A Feeling For How Flimsey It Really Is.
I'm Sure You Can Beef It Up But The Design Is Flawed.

Re: RZR Factory Roll Cage Mods??

Whether you replace, reinforce or just leave it alone depends on what you plan to do with your Rzr. If you're going to race it or jump the hell out of it you should replace the cage. For the type of trail riding that Polaris probably figured most people would do--it's an adequate brushguard. It protects the occupants in a mild rollover but will likely get bent bad enough to need replacing. Better it than your neck.

As for the silly "ugly" comment in a magazine--Are you going to let some probably un-named magazine contributor be the judge of that? If so then there are dozens of aftermarket companies who would love to sell you stuff to make your Rzr acceptable to magazine writers and their advertising departments.

I called them ugly in my online RZR review, and in the next Side x Side Action Magazine, I called it "less than attractive". Hah!

Had nothing to do with any advertising. I just think they are ugly and weak.

Re: RZR Factory Roll Cage Mods??

Thanks Guys.. Good info..

The Race Car guy "Ryan" has decided to build from scratch, his thoughts are the factory material is just too thin.. And he wants to build something cool. So stay tuned I will post pic's over the next week or two of the results.

And Guy48065 I mostly agree with you, my though were the factory cage would work for the mostly trail riding I will see.

Re: RZR Factory Roll Cage Mods??

I guess the thing that bothers me most about putting an after market cage on is that you wouldn't be able to use any of the Polaris accessories, you would be screwed that way. Maybe I'll just re-enforce mine.

I'll be re-enforcing mine when I get around to it. I figure with the type of riding I do, it will be more than adequate. Especially after seeing the Cart Wheelin Guys do an endo in a race at about 30-40 and having their re-enforced cage hold up. (I wont be doing any racing with mine, and this way the stock Polaris accessories will mostly work.

Re: RZR Factory Roll Cage Mods??

Same here. Some people talk like they expect to be spending more time on their top than they do on their wheels. I would hope someone buying one of these was a good enough driver to keep it on it's wheels most of the time.
