How to replace hook on synthetic cable?

I installed my brand new cable on my winch (synthetic rope) and while trying to winch the side of my rzr up on a tree (no jack, two flats) it caught the edge of a plate and broke the rope.

My question is how can I reattach the hook to a synthetic cable? Is it possible and have it attach securely?

Thanks in advance....

you should be able to loop it through the hook, then run the cable back through its self.

its supposed to work like the little Chinese finger traps. the harder it pulls the tighter it gets.

we use nylon rope on the older bow presses at work. its ran back through its self for about 3-4 inches then we have about a inch n half sticking out. its melted with a lighter, and it stays very tight.

id say the winch cable would need to run back through more than a few inches.

When I bought my 2010 used I bought the winch, but all they had in stock were steel cables so I bought the synthetic cable and it came without a loop on either end so I tied the knot you were talking about where it gets tighter as its pulled and I've used it quite a few times already and it has shown no signs of slipping yet.

11 year old thread; but to answer the question, the easy way to do this correctly get a proper sized sailors fid. Thread the rope back into itself with the hook inside the loop you created. It’s how they do it and make it look factory.
