Gas Tank Clean Out ??????

I got water and sand in my gas tank. What is the best way to clean it out? And does the gas tank have a drain?

Re: Gas Tank Clean Out ??????

Doesnt have a drain. Only way to make sure you get everything is to take it out and rinse it thoroughly with gas. Download the service manual it shows you how to take the tank out. I would suggest not taking the fuel pump assembly out and do everything through the filler. Those little brass fittings the screws go in can be a nightmare.

Re: Gas Tank Clean Out ??????

Im not sure if the filler cap leaked or the water ran back through the vent line but it set stuck for about 3 hours in the water. We had 4 other atvs try to pull it out and ended up geting a 4x4 truck to pull it out. If you notice in my other post I need frame parts now due to this mishap. ( truck pulled frame peice off ) .

Re: Gas Tank Clean Out ??????

this is the easy way take a clear hose and start a shiphon and run it along the bottom of the tank to pick up the debris! but if there is mud in there take it out and wash it

Re: Gas Tank Clean Out ??????

This won't solve your problem but when everyone starting posting that the fuel filter was in the tank and not servicable I picked up a Mr. Funnel.
You can order or I picked mine up at Harbor Freight for about $20.

Sounds like you should take the tank out to be sure you get the bad stuff out.

Re: Gas Tank Clean Out ??????

I know this is an old post, but running into the same issue. Was driving through a creek about three foot deep and coming out she started sputtering and no power. Checked the plugs and they were dry, ECU plug seems dry as well, so water in the fuel is my next thing.

So going to remove my tank and see what I have, flashlight was not cutting it! lol Now if there is what in the tank and I still have some in the hoses / fuel rail, whats the best was to remove it from there, or over time it will remove itself and start running better?

Thanks for the help everyone!
