not enough oil can make them sound like that. check the oil level.

Thanks, checked oil and it is at the proper level. I guess I was wondering if this is known issue or just my bad luck.

they make a little noise. I would say that you are lucky to own one.

Re: 2012 rzr s engine problems

Spoke with dealership, noise is in bottom of motor. Said they are waiting on a reply from polaris whether or not to go ahead with tear down. I told them if they did I didn't want it back I paid for a new machine and that what I want. Once tore down they are never the same. Besides 9.5 hours. He said he would let me know. Don't you think it would be in there best interests to just replace it and look into the problem further?

Re: 2012 rzr s engine problems

ok, dealership contacted and now the noise is in the top to of the motor, said it was a lifter. lol he also said that i shouldnt have to pay anything.. lol no Sh**!!! 103 miles 3 weeks old i kinda figured that... also dont contact polaris customer service, they suck!!! why the number exists is beyond me... they were no help whatsoever.. i asked for a gift card or something for the incovenience of this and was told the warranty does not cover that... and that polaris did not have a program to assist its customers in that way... polaris is a great vehicle, and i understand that there will be problems out of some of them, they are machines... but for the sheer incovenience of one that has 9.5 hours on it... polaris customer service and their policy sucks!!!!

Re: 2012 rzr s engine problems

They all tick at idle, some louder than others, some say it's normal injector noise.

I just try to cut down on idling.

I doubt it's a problem mine has a banging in the top end and so do all the other rzrs I've heard. Mine did it since brand new it's only a month or so old now.

Oh it's fairly loud? Mine is very noticeable at idle, or when you shut it off. I'm just running mine til she blows, thats what warranty is for

Re: 2012 rzr s engine problems

Bought a 2012 800 RZR new from a dealer May 31, 2014. Engine ate a cam in the dealers parking lot! New engine was installed. Everytime I ride something breaks or vibrates loose. Labor Day I broke the front stabilizer bar. Got it repaired! Now I.m throwing error code 51. Will idle or run wide open, no midrange throttle. I "PAID" for a dealer to troubleshoot and repair. Now they are telling me the throttle body has been monkeyed with and the warranty won't fix it, another $400.00. I'm thinking about selling it and cutting my losses!! Are these things normal or do I just have a lemon?
