Blown head gasket?????

Sooo here is my head gasket. Now its NOT leaking any oil or coolant where the gasket is missing/blown out etc. Which is weird. Oil is NOT milky and coolant is still coolant. I did run low on coolant at CB and had to refill BUT Im not sure if that was due to a hose clamp that was a little loose and you could see where coolant was dripping. I have since fixed that. Do you think honda bond or Bar's Leak (stuff that you pour into the coolant system and supposively seals well from the reviews) will be a temporary "bandaid?"

Im not running low on oil either. The mark is the same where it was when I did an oil change right before the ride. I used some stop leak powder stuff just incase I had a leak in the radiator which I thought I did but it was coming from my front brush guard retaining water and then slowly leaking out and making a puddle in the garage. If the engine is bathed with a mud film on it you can tell where the leak is on the motor but theres never more than half a dime size of residue. Guess just ride it a few more times and see if I have some missing coolant? Could be right where my water jacket to cylinder is and burning it off.

Re: Blown head gasket?????

If you really think it is a head gasket then I would refrain from adding any additive that will "bandaid" the problem. I think swingarm sells all the gaskets and it would prob not be a hard fix. Drain coolant and remove head and put in new gasket. I be hesitant that adding those temp fixes would over time do somthing to the water pump, jam up thermostats or somthing... Also you could do a leak down test and see if for sure that's where your problem is.

Stop leak will do just what it is intended to do .....plug chit up, and in your case you don't need it so refrain from using it or you'll be sorry later on!

Re: Blown head gasket?????

your head gasket is not blown, you are just missing a little piece. there must still be gasket where it is needed if no oil in coolant, or coolant in oil.

Re: Blown head gasket?????

If your head gasket is blown it will push coolant out the fill bottle once you start getting the motor hot. I would only use stop leak to get you home then fix the problem ASAP.

Re: Blown head gasket?????

But why am I getting a little oil/coolant leak from that hole? I mean its nothing bad but look how it discolored the motor and when the motors been under watery mud you can tell where that gasket is missing?

I put hi temp silicone on the little gap to stop the weeping of oil/coolant and rode the ride with no problems. My biggest thing was I had to fill the radiator up once quite a bit, but it could have been from the upper inlet on the radiator didnt clamp the hose tight enough allowing some coolant to leak out. Ive since got it tight and it no longer leaks. Just sucks cause I had a few variables of what it could have been so I cant figure it out!

Re: Blown head gasket?????

true I did say that, sometimes it will sometimes it wont. Its has never been more than a very SMALL residue not even the size of the tip of your index finger, that why I said it doesnt leak.

Re: Blown head gasket?????

Cometic gasket kit is cheap and the 800 motor is probably about the easiest to pull the head on as it is pushrod. I would get a gasket set and plan on spending a few hours changing it before you do additional damage.

Re: Blown head gasket?????

If there is no coolant in the oil and you are not pushing coolant out the fill bottle you don't have a blown head gasket. Most likely if you go through a lot mud you have over heated the ride. If you spend a lot of time in mud you will need to clean the fins on the radiator constantly.

That image you posted is a common look on the 800.

Re: Blown head gasket?????

It said hot once, I drove it back to camp and popped the cap off and it was low on coolant (which of course coulda been from that upper radiator inlet and hose going from the neck to rad) I got to many variables for us to figure it out. Im just gonna pressure check it and Ill know for sure.
