Grinding Gears

Anyone else having issues with the gears grinding when trying to shift from park? I am totally stopped and not forcing the shifter but it still grinds most of the time.

Re: Grinding Gears

I have that problem occasionally. I will have the dealer address the problem when I go in for service soon. I think it is a linkage adjustment problem.

Re: Grinding Gears

Are you at idle or are your RPM's a little high. The clutch's have to be turning, or the tires have to be turning to grind.

Re: Grinding Gears

My idle is between 1100 and 1200. Is that to high?

No anything under 1300 RPM is normal. I would take it to the dealer.

Re: Grinding Gears

I think he is having the common problem that a lot of people are having. It does not fully engage into gear, and when you hit the gas it grinds bad. I got to where I pull it back, and tap the pedal to see what it does.

Re: Grinding Gears

The clutch moves in neutral. The noise reminds me of a boat where you have to hit it in gear fast.

Has anyone gotten stuck in park? I was going for reverse when I got stuck on a steep incline. I stabbed it all the way in park by accident. When I let off the brakes, all of the weight was on the park gear. I had to pull with both hands to get it out.

How do you like the goodyear tires? I'd like to know how long they last. Try to wear them out so you can tell us!

Re: Grinding Gears

A fast rapid shift will prevent the grinding issue.

So far i rate them as ok.Not as good as the Mud lites in snow and mud but much smoother ride.I noticed they are already cut up pretty good from spinning on rocks

Re: Grinding Gears

I notice the same on occasion, shifting from reverse to high. It helps to hold the shift lever back at initial throttle. Possibly a linkage adjustment will correct this.
